Peacock just dropped the final episode of the premiere season of Vampire Academy, and it was everything we hoped for and more! The episode is jam packed with action, romance, heartbreak, and death. ‘Ascension’ was written by creator Marguerite Macintyre, and directed by Geoffrey Wing Shotz.
Invasion | When the episode begins it’s chaos. There’s Strigoi attacking Moroi and Dhampir everywhere you look, Guardians are trying to fight back while the royal Moroi get loaded into buses and evacuate, leaving everyone else behind and their fates up to the Elements. Rose (Sisi Stringer) and Mason (Andrew Liner) are driving away from it all, but when Mason tells her of Dimitri’s (Kieron Moore) fate they turn around and go help. Lissa (Daniela Nieves) is with the Queen (Pik Sen Lim), who has just been poisoned using a feeder. She doesn’t have much time left now.

The Tunnels | During the daytime they have a little room to breathe and come up with a plan. Thanks to Meredith (Rhian Blundell) they come up with a brilliant one. There are old tunnels the Strigoi are probably hiding in, so Rose and Dimitri go into them to see what they can find. Along with Strigoi they also find old alchemy symbols, and Dimitri warns Rose to run if she ever sees one of them in the human world. They come across a larger group of Strigoi and fight. Dimitri ends up getting bit and is incapacitated by the high, leaving Rose alone to fight. At least until her mother arrives, bringing with her backup that can help protect the people of St. Vladimir’s.
Long Live the Queen | Queen Marina uses what little strength she has left to help Lissa safely escape outside before dying from the poison. out on the streets Lissa runs into Mia (Mia McKenna-Bruce) and the two of them work together to find Jesse (Joseph Ollman), who still has his car. Dane Zeklos (Craig Stevenson) tries to get in the car but is a total jackass so Jesse leaves him to be killed by a Strigoi. As they are driving away Lissa spots Eddie (Blake Patrick Anderson) and others injured on the streets and decides she needs to stay behind with her people. Mia stays with her, and the two of them join the others on the roadside. Lissa uses what light she has to heal as many injured people as she can. Suddenly Andre (Jason Diaz) is there, he’s escaped from Tatiana (Anita-Joy Uwajeh). The siblings briefly unite before Moira Ozera (Nikol Kolhrs) tracks Andre down and bites him, taking him away with her. Lissa is devastated, Rose can feel her pain and echoes it with her own.
The Wards | Christian (Andre Dae Kim) has been named a Monk by the High Priestess, giving him the ability to use the stake to restore the wards. The only problem is that it needs to be imbued by Spirit magic, meaning he needs Lissa’s help. He meets her and the others at the border with the stake and tells Lissa what he needs her to do. Because she had been healing so many people earlier she doesn’t have enough light to do it, at least not until Rose arrives. Together they imbue the stake and give it to Christian, who has to fight his way past Strigoi to place it and restore the wards. He manages to do it, but before Mason winds up terribly injured.
After the wards are restored we see Tatiana having a press conference and being named Queen. That’s definitely not good, we know she doesn’t want to actually rule so what is she up to? She tells the press that Lissa is now wanted in connection to Queen Marina’s murder, meaning she has to go on the run.
Rose won’t let Dimitri go with them, they need someone on the inside to help Lissa. They say their emotional goodbyes while Lissa and Christian say their own heartfelt goodbyes. Rose’s mother gives her phone number to call if they need anything while on the run, and it turns out to be her father’s number. Lissa and Rose are now off on their own, into the human world.
Oh yeah, now Andre is a Strigoi…
