“Vampire Academy” Episode ‘Darkness’ Recap: Let There be Light

Peacock’s Vampire Academy did not disappoint with the penultimate episode! The episode was filled with betrayals and goodbyes and surprised us with the beginnings of a disastrous massacre. ‘Darkness’ was written by Tawal Panyacosit and Benjamin O’Hara and directed by Geoffrey Wing Shotz.

Desperation | Both Victor (J. August Richards) and Tatiana (Anita-Joy Uwajeh) are desperately trying to get the Throne in their own ways. Tatiana and the Council go to the Queen (Pik Sen Lim) to try to get the Trials outcome wiped out, but her great aunt will not allow it, saying the elements have made their choice. Victor is desperately trying to gain his family’s forgiveness for lying about Sonya (Jonetta Kaiser) and keep his health up long enough to take the Throne. He’s so desperate for this that he locks Lissa (Daniela Nieves) up to get the drugs out of her system so she can heal him once she’s able to. But Lissa wants no part of this, and thanks to her bond with Rose (Sisi Stringer), her BFF is there to keep Victor from harming her. Lissa is so furious at Victor that she ends up releasing all of her Light into him, healing him and making her pass out.

Guilty | Dimitri (Kieron Moore) is paid a not so friendly visit by Croft, who detains and charges him with treason. Sasha () has been found alive so now the higher ups know Dimitri lied in his report of what happened that night at Sasha’s home. But Dimitri sticks to his guns and never once betrays Rose. He’s placed in a cell next to Sasha in the dungeons for the time being.

Leaving | Rose and Mason (Andrew Liner) are tying up loose ends and saying their goodbyes to everyone before leaving on their adventure. Rose and Lissa speak after Rose saves her BFF from Victor. Lissa can see Rose’s aura, light, and darkness. Lissa now understands that she wasn’t passing her darkness along to Rose, rather she was taking Rose’s light. She no longer wants to do this, and since Rose is leaving that shouldn’t be an issue. The pair refuses to say goodbye, and instead say “see ya later.” Rose and Mason pack up a car and hit the road. They have no idea what’s going on behind them back at St. Vladimir’s.

Distraction | Christian (Andre Dae Kim) confronts Diane (Amanda Drew) about working with his parents, and she confirms it’s true. She clearly wants to be a Strigoi and is working with them in hopes of them turning her. He gives the feeder a message for his parents, he’s ready to talk. Diane sets it all up, and just as Christian is leaving to meet with them he receives a message from them. Christian immediately goes to Alberta (Jennifer Kirby) to report what these new plans are, they have Mia (Mia McKenna-Bruce) and want to trade her for Strigoi Sonya. Alberta doesn’t believe it and refuses to go along with it at first, but Christian convinces her otherwise and they go with a team to make the trade.

Craziness ensues at the exchange. First Diane is killed. Then after the sisters are exchanged we find out the real reason the Ozera’s did this. It was a distraction. Alberta has been stabbed and the key to the wards taken. The wards suddenly fall and Christian knows he was played, a massacre is about to ensue. He’s so enraged he uses his fire magic to kill his father. His mother runs off screaming about coming for Lissa.

We suddenly find out who is betraying their people and working with the Strigoi, Tatiana. And even worse, she has Andre (Jason Diaz) prisoner. He didn’t die in the car accident, he was captured.
