“Reginald the Vampire” Season 2 Exclusive (Video): Savannah Basley Talks Angela’s New Look, Relationship with Maurice, & More

On SYFY’s supernatural series Reginald the Vampire, our favorite character is not the titular vampire, but the smart and cunning 400-year-old vampire Angela Hibbert, played by the absolutely stunning and super lovely Savannah Basley (“SurrealEstate“).

PopWire recently caught up with the actress to preview the fangtastic sophomore season. In our discussion below, Basley speaks about her character’s new look, Angela and Maurice’s relationship status, and more.

savannah-basleyPopWire: This season of Reginald the Vampire brings out the human element in Angela. Do you think your character would ever consider the simple life and turning back into a human?

Savannah Basley: Definitely not, no. [laughs] I think Angela likes where she is — well maybe not so much at the beginning of this season and throughout, but I think Angela likes the power that she has and the control that she has from being a vampire.

I think she’s become so accustomed to it that I don’t think she’d like being a human again. She would also probably forget a lot of the time that she is human and there’s things she can’t do. She would probably end up getting herself in trouble or hurt very quickly.

PW: Viewers will get to see a completely different side of Angela this season. But what’s also exciting is her new look! The new hair and wardrobe looks fierce on you. What can you tell us about Angela’s new look and does this new look affect or influence how you portray her persona?

SB: I love Angela’s new look. It was a lot of fun to experiment and to put together. I think this season there’s a little bit more of her battle wear kind of Matrix-y inspired, there’s a lot of leather happening. I think it’s kind of inspired of there always being able to kick butt if she had to like bring it on at any given time.

In terms of has it changed the way that I play Angela, I don’t think so. I think she’s always pretty fierce. She’s less guarded which is what we were kind of going for with the lighter look in terms of the makeup and stuff. It’s to kind of go along with the more vulnerable side of her.

She’s someone who you can kind of tell her mood based on her makeup. Definitely in the first season it was very like, ‘Don’t talk to me; go away,’  kind of look to it. This season she’s a little bit more open, a little bit lighter, and hopefully that comes across.

PW: Did you love the red hair?

SB: I LOVED the red hair. It was so hard to take the wig off every time. At the end of the day, I’d be like, ‘Can I just keep it on a little bit longer?’ It made me want to flip my hair a lot. It was a lot of flipping of the hair a lot of the time.

PW: In the start of Season 2 of Reginald the Vampire, it appears that Angela’s relationship with Maurice is going on well, but there’s always room for drama and conflict. What can you tease about where their relationship is headed in the new season?

SB: Angela and Maurice, I would say last season was a little bit more of a love/hate relationship. This season, I would say there is still the romantic aspect to it, but I think you get to see a little bit more of their friendship come through, the idea that there’s more of an acceptance between them. I think they’ve gotten past this idea of trying to change the other person and they fully just accepted the other person for who they are and are just trying their best to be there for each other.

I think the whole angel war has kind of thrown both of them for a loop and Angela more so I think than everybody takes it kind of the worst. So there is this really beautiful aspect of them being there for each other and trying to support each other and just trying to let the other one know that things are going to be okay. Friendship really just comes to mind; you get to see the friendship between them a lot more.
