“Reginald the Vampire” Exclusive: Savannah Basley Talks Technicality in Series’ Vampire Orgy & Teases What’s to Come in Season 2

When Savannah Basley isn’t killing it on SYFY’s SurrealEstate, she can be seen slaying it on the network’s other supernatural dramedy Reginald the Vampire. In the blood-soaked series, the actress plays Angela Hibbert, the smart and cunning 400-year-old vampire deacon.

svannah-basleyPopWire recently connected with Basley where she discusses the technicality of the much talked about — and sticky — vampire orgy scene from last season and teases what fans can expect when the SYFY series sets its return in early May.

In the second installment of Reginald the Vampire‘s inaugural season, “The Hunger,” written by Harley Peyton and directed by Jeremiah Chechik, the vampire deacon along with her minion Penelope (Georgia Waters), revenge-obsessed Maurice (Mandela Van Peebles) and his partner Mike (Ryan Jinn), take part in a fiery foursome, which Basley tells us was “very fun” to film.

“It’s very technical a lot of the time,” Savannah Basley tells us. “At least for me, I just keep it very technical. Most of the time I try to just keep it relaxed. I kind of change my character, so if I have to go into one of those scenes, I’m just going to pretend like I’m a stripper.

“I just kind of go into that mode, what’s going to look best on camera, how am I going to move, what’s going to give the message across the best,” she continues. “You’re just kind of dancing. Think of a song in your head, what’s the vibe, think Usher. You just kind of try to emulate that energy and then that way you can get out of your head and forget that people [on the set] are watching you and you’re pretending to do a sex scene.”

While the four successfully pulled off the sensual love scene, what viewers don’t know is that it was “actually quite funny” filming because everyone and everything got very sticky. “It was so sticky that we just decided not to move between takes,” Basley says with a laugh. “Literally, we had to peel ourselves off and they’d spritz us with water just to get the blood wet again so we could separate ourselves.”

Fortunately, all the fake blood used in that orgy and throughout the rest of the season, while very sticky, didn’t stain their skin. If it did, however, the actress says that a great hack to get it off is shaving cream. “For some reason it helps,” she says. “There’s something in it that helps to lift everything.”

It’s been over a year since Reginald the Vampire left the airwaves, and from what Basley teases, the new season sounds like it just may be worth the wait. “The new season is fun, obviously,” she says. “Fun as in we have a lot more going on than just focusing on Reginald and the assessment. We have some new villains that have been introduced, which is really fun.

“You’re going to see a completely different side of Angela,” Savannah Basley continues. “I’m really excited for people to get to see that side of her. We really tried to bring the human element to her which is kind of ironic because she’s a vampire. We wanted to bring more understanding to Angela and why she is the way that she is. There were a lot of scenes that were a lot of fun to film and gave me a little bit of a challenge.”

Reginald the Vampire Season 2 premieres Wednesday, May 8 on SYFY.
