CHRISTINE [scoffs] You? Help me? What is there that you could possibly help me with?
BRUTUS Protection.
CHRISTINE [laughs] Protection? Against whom?
BRUTUS Protection against the Guardian.
CHRISTINE Protection? HA! How silly of you to think I need protection from the Guardian. We’re very close. I actually think he’s into me.
BRUTUS You sure about that? Think about it. Think about your daughter Candace. How do you think she would feel if something bad were to happen to you?
CHRISTINE How do you know about my Candace?
BRUTUS One of the girls I was looking for, Lilly, talks about Candance all the time. They’re good friends. At least I think they are… or were.
CHRISTINE Well, that’s just preposterous. The Guardian would never hurt me. We’re partners. Plus, he agreed that if anything were to happen, Candace would be spared. So, Candace and I are untouchable.
BRUTUS Fine. That’s great!
CHRISTINE Bruno. Bruno, wait!
CHRISTINE What kind of protection?
BRUTUS First of all, it’s “Brutus.” Second of all, before I tell you, let me tell you what I need first. I’ve heard that the Guardian you work with knows everything about all the portals. I need help finding a specific one.
CHRISTINE What do you mean?
BRUTUS The love of my life, Dani, was sucked into one of them. And I’ve been trying for years to figure out how to get her back. I have this orb that can open the portal she’s in, I just need to tell it which portal it is.
CHRISTINE And how am I supposed to help with that?
BRUTUS Talk to the Guardian. I need you to find out which portal has the Sacred Tree of Echalas. That’s the portal Dani is stuck in. I’ve been finding leaves from that sacred tree everywhere, and I believe that somehow it’s a sign from Dani telling me where she is.
Brutus’ hope dies that he won’t be making a deal with Christine.
Brutus walks away, sad. Christine starts to consider his pitch and has finally makes up her mind.
Brutus stops, closes his eyes, and sighs with relief. He turns and walks back toward Christine.
Brutus smiles.
