Peacock keeps gifting us with wonderful episodes of Vampire Academy, and today is no different! We get to see our favorite pair explore the human world for the first time while on the hunt for a heretic who might hold the answers Lissa seeks. ‘Beyond the Wards’ was written by J.J. Braider and directed by Erica Dunton.
Royal Trials | Victor (J. August Richards) really wants this nomination for the throne, but he finds out that’s becoming more difficult for the Queen (Pik Sen Lim) to do. The Church is trying to force her hand into nominating Tatiana (Anita-Joy Uwajeh), but she doesn’t want an elementalist ruling. So the Queen has one last trick up her sleeve; she declares that the Royal Trials will be enacted and performed. The elements can decide who is fit to rule, not her.
While all of that is going on, Sonya (Jonetta Kaiser) is busy draining her feeder dry. Her darkness is becoming stronger and more difficult to keep at bay.
The Human World | Rose (Sisi Stringer), Lissa (Daniela Nieves), Adrian (Leo Woodall), and Dimitri (Kieron Moore) head off into the human world in search of a heretic who might hold the information about St. Vladimir that Lissa and Adrian seek. They quickly realize they are not dressed the part and stop at a store for a quick makeover so they can more easily fit in. They end up at a nightclub, Adrian and Lissa head off to a Moroi only section while Rose and Dimitri dance. Rose suddenly senses a strigoi so she gathers everyone and they head out. But not before Rose caught a quick glimpse of the strigoi.
They find the Heretic and convince her to help. Lissa and Adrian describe the art they’ve interpreted to the woman, but need help with the missing corner. Lucky for them she thinks she knows what was there. It’s an image of a Spirit Bond, one between Vlad and Shadow-Kissed Anna.
The strigoi from the club track them down and mount an attack. Dimitri and Rose take them out, but Rose does hesitate slightly at one moment. That can’t happen. Before leaving, the Heretic gives Lissa the information she really needs.
The Ultimate Sin | When they return to St. Vlad’s Academy, Lissa gives Rose news she doesn’t want to hear. Lissa no longer wants her BFF to be her guardian. Rose is stunned, but Lissa explains why; the night of the car accident Rose actually died. Lissa brought her back, creating a Spirit Bond. Rose is Shadow-Kissed, and Lissa committed the ultimate sin just like Vlad. Resurrection. Lissa doesn’t want to risk giving Rose any more of her darkness and thinks that the space will help. After a heartbroken Rose leaves, Lissa takes a few pills, presumably to dull her Spirit magic.
