“Wynonna Earp” Recap: Hexed

“Wynonna Earp” Recap: Hexed

In Part 1 of the season 4A finale of SYFY’s Wynonna Earp just aired, and it was a real doozy! We finally find out a little bit about what Nicole did during the 18 months, and just how desperate she was to get Waverly back. ‘Holy War Part 1’ was written by the hilarious Noelle Carbone and directed by Ron Murphy. Here’s the craziness that went down!

Fire | The episode opens with a wedding dream sequence. Nicole (Katherine Barrell) is marrying Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), but Waverly isn’t there. Instead Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) is angry at her and tells her Waves isn’t marrying her what she did. What did she do?!? When Nicole wakes up, the Homestead is on fire and she has to fireman carry Waves outside and wake her up.

Wynonna wakes up in the barn to Doc (Tim Rozon) sitting near. They almost get some sexy time, but Wynonna smells the fire, ending what could have been sexy fun times for the pair. They run to the house just as Rachel (Martina Ortiz-Luis) exits with a fire extinguisher, she put out the fire but they lost the couch. Next Nicole exits with Waves over her shoulder. After putting Waverly down, they all gather around her until she wakes up. The group just sits outside on the porch until the sun comes up, they think they were attacked, but by who? Maybe the Clanton’s, maybe someone or something else. But Doc doesn’t think so, he’s memorized everyone’s shoe prints on the Homestead and says there were no unfamiliar prints around. Strange. Doc and Wynonna decide to pay Amon (Naom Jenkins) a visit to see if he has any answers.

At the Glory Hole, Amon and Wynonna meet for the first time. The trio hardcore flirt, and I definitely wouldn’t be mad about something happening between the three of them. Amon also reveals that he knows where Peacemaker is.

At the Sheriff’s Department, Jeremy (Varun Saranga) is channeling his Dolls and taking over the office, kicking Cleo (Savannah Basley) and Holt (Ty Olsson) out so he and his BBD team can move in. Cleo is definitely not happy about this change. Waverly and Nicole show up, and Nicole gives Jeremy a piece of her mind for abandoning her.

Back at the Glory Hole, Amon tells Wynonna of a place where “forgotten items turn up.” Amon is only helping Wynonna because the Clanton’s seem to be feared by everyone in Purgatory, they cause trouble for all. Amon also tells Wynonna the people who have Peacemaker will want an offering, and he says she has just what they want. Doc and Wyn go off in search of that item to exchange for the gun.

Something Weird is Happening | Everyone meets up at the Sheriff’s Department, Doc and Jeremy reunite for the first time and it’s adorable. Doc and Wynonna share what they learned from Amon and Nicole seems less than thrilled. Then, when no one is paying her any attention, something comes over Nicole and she holds up the drill in her hand and turns it on, looking like she’s ready to drill someone’s brains out. Luckily, Wynonna snaps her out of it. The team unanimously agrees that they should trust Amon, at least for the time being.

Rachel has decided to go back to the Clanton’s ranch in search of Billy. But what she finds is far worse than what she expected.

Wynonna and Doc go to the local museum to find what Amon told them to get, a piece called ‘A Woman Scorned.’ While looking for it, they find an old recording of Wyatt Earp, talking about Doc and the O.K. Corral.

Frog in the Throat | At the Sheriff’s Office, Jeremy interrupts WayHaught kissing on their new couch [they decided to keep Cleo’s couch]. Nicole and Jeremy continue to have tension while they scour through files, trying to find anything on the Clanton’s. Suddenly, Nicole gets some crazy stomach cramps and runs out of the room, puking up some weird stuff. She suddenly gets a flashback to her going to Margot Clanton (Reagan Pasternak) for help to get Waverly back. We see Nicole agree to something, but we don’t know what the agreement was. Nicole tries to tell Waverly what she did, but when she tries she ends up throwing up more, and ends up throwing up live frogs.

At the museum, Doc and Wynonna continue to watch the footage of Wyatt, he’s telling a story about how he was almost shot in the back, but Doc saved him. Doc says anyone who would shoot someone in the back doesn’t deserve to be remembered, when Wynonna asked him who tried to shoot Wyatt. While looking at photos from the time Wynonna spots Rosita (Tamara Duarte) in one and gets angry. She still hasn’t forgiven the revenant fro trying to take Alice. Back to the Wyatt video, Wyatt says Doc took the first shot at the O.K. Corral, but Doc denies this vehemently and seems troubled by. he also tells Wynonna that he doesn’t think she would be proud of Wyatt.

At Magpie Ranch, Margot tells Cleo and Holt that she finally has something to celebrate. She’s “set the wheels in motion” for something to happen to the Earp’s. According to Margot, they deserve to be “destroyed by one another.” Maybe that’s what’s happening to Nicole!

Nicole, Waverly, and Jeremy go to see Nedley (Greg Lawson) at Shorty’s so Nicole can drink to get the frog flavor out of her mouth. Waves explains to Nedley that Nicole did something bad while they were gone, but every time she tries to say what she did she pukes frogs. Nedley realizes this must be some kind of hex, and wants to help out. Nicole tries to write down who hexed her, but it all comes out in scribbles.

At the museum, Wynonna and Doc find the painting Amon told them to get. Doc decides they’ve wasted too much time already and just pulls the painting off the wall and the pair walk right out. Outside, they see a Celtic Sister’s Knot, hear some ridiculously loud church bells, and Wynonna disappears.

Wynonna appears inside the Sanctuary of the Scorned Woman, which is run by nuns. Wynonna gives them the painting, and the head nun reveals the true picture underneath. It’s a woman standing between two rocks. and the nuns want that woman. Wynonna just wants Peacemaker, and is allowed to look for her in a weapons room. But no matter how hard she tries, Wynonna can’t get Peacemaker to reveal herself.

Doc goes back to the Glory Hole to threaten Amon over Wynonna disappearing, but the demon says he’s not in on it. Then Doc spots someone else and goes to join him, Holt. They argue over events of the past, and ends with Doc telling Holt that they’re both dammed if they shed blood, it doesn’t matter what side they’re on.

The Cure | At the Homestead, Waverly is taking care of Nicole and brings up the engagement. Nicole wants to marry Waverly, but isn’t sure Waverly will want to marry her after she finds out what she did to get hexed. Jeremy interrupts with some good news, he’s found a cure! Or rather, three possible cures. The first is a spell reflecting ceremony, but she could turn into a demon dog if they do something wrong. The second is an exorcism where she would be drowned in salted Holy Water. Option three, and probably the safest, is an antidote soup. They pick the soup, and Wynonna comes in right as Nicole runs out sick.

On the ranch, Rachel is still looking for Billy (Billy Bryk), following the sound of his ringing phone as she calls it.

We finally get an awesome WynHaught moment when Wynonna sits outside with Nicole and they chat. Wynonna starts to piece together that Nicole did something to help get them home, then changes the topic to keep Nicole from puking. She tells her BFF how Peacemaker rejected her and shows her the painting of the woman she needs to find. Nicole immediately recognizes the location as Steve’s Gulch. Doc pulls up and Nicole gets visibly sicker, and goes inside to check on the cure.

In a trance-like state, Nicole grabs the antidote and dumps it down the kitchen sink. Then she gets knives and goes after Wynonna in the barn. They fight until Doc restrains her and Wynonna punches her in the face, knocking her out of it. They know it’s the hex, and they put together that she also set the fire inside the house the night before. They quickly come up with a plan, Waverly will tie up Nicole while Wynonna and Doc find the woman in the painting and take her to the sanctuary in hopes that Peacemaker will reveal herself.

Waverly can’t tie the rope tight enough so Nicole sends her upstairs to grab handcuffs, then uses the time alone with Jeremy to have a telepathic conversation with him that he doesn’t seem to be thrilled about.

On the ranch, Rachel finds Billy’s phone and sees all her missed calls. Suddenly we see Billy next to her, he’s a Reaper, so she can’t see him. Poor Billy!

Upstairs at the Homestead, Nicole tricks Wavery and handcuffs her to the bed. She has another plan that Jeremy is reluctantly going along with. Nicole and Jeremy leave Waverly and go to Shorty’s, where Nicole asks him to kill her.

Doc and Wynonna make it to Steve’s Gulch and find the woman, it’s Rosita ().

At Shorty’s, Waverly walks in and sees Jeremy drowning Nicole while Nedley is wearing a wolf’s head and chanting. Nicole looks dead, and Jeremy rushes to Waves and asks her to trust them.

What a crazy ending! What do you think will happen in next week’s mid-season finale?
