It’s a goos thing Wynonna Earp’s season 3 premiere was so much fun, because episode 2 punched us all in the feels! ‘When You Call My Name’ was written by Caitlin D. Fryers and directed by Paolo Barzman, and the episode featured some crazy, some cannibalism, and a sad sad end to one of our beloved characters.
Wynonna Walks With Mama | The episode picks up moments after the premiere ends, with Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) waking up at the bottom of a cliff she had been flung over during the truck accident. She screams for Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), but suddenly hears someone telling her to save her energy, and it’s Mama Earp (Megan Follows). Or at least, it’s her image. We know Mama Earp is in a mental facility, so this must be what Wynonna imagines her mother is like, is in shock, and projecting that, which in turn pushes her to survive. Wynonna pops her dislocated shoulder back into place and begins climbing the cliff at the urging of Mama.
She survives and searches through the woods for Waverly, with Mama right by her side. Through the conversations Wynonna has with her mother, we learn a lot about Wyn’s childhood and what she remembers her relationship with her mother to be like. Eventually, she does track down her sister, and we’re all startled by who/what took her.

Ursula, Is That You? | Waverly has been captured by a crazy hunter/cannibal revenant (Dimitri Vantis) that has the ability to steal his victims voices. Waverly’s in a cage, and the revenant uses her voice to lure an unsuspecting woodsman inside his cabin and right into his boobytrap where the mans throat gets slit. When the revenant steps out for a bit is when Wynonna finds the cabin, and when she enters she sees her sister trapped in a cabin and unable to use her voice. Waverly has to mime to Wynonna that the whole first floor of the cabin is boobytrapped, and then provide silent instructions on how to navigate said boobytraps. It honestly led to one of the funniest scenes I’ve seen in a good while.
Before Wynonna is able to break the lock off the cage the revenant returns, causing Wynonna to hide upstairs. But when the rev decides to go check his traps, Wynonna seizes the opportunity and follows him and kills him in one of his own traps. Of course this leads to her getting trapped in a nearby trap as well, she’s stuck hanging upside down from a tree until Doc (Tim Rozon) and Nicole (Katherine Barrell) finds her. They get Waverly out of the cage and head out of the creepy woods.
Back at the cars, Waverly and Wynonna have a painful discussion about Mama’s whereabouts and how long Wynonna’s known about them [the whole time]. Nicole volunteers to use her climbing equipment and years of experience to go down the cliff and retrieve Peacemaker from where Wynonna had landed after the crash. But while she was dangling over the cliff, the demon working with Bulshar (Jean Marchand) and who moves swiflty [and is probably responsible for all the Cult killings], cuts the rope. Wynonna grabs hold of the rope before Nicole crashes to her death, but she can’t hold Nicole if the demon attacks her. Dolls (Shamier Anderson) shows up just in time, after several warnings not to from Jeremy (Varun Saranga) due to his health, and joins in the fight. He holds off the demon so Wynonna doesn’t have to let go of Nicole to save herself. Dolls goes full dragon and creates a giant fireball, surrounding himself and the demon in flames. It worked, Dolls held the demon back long enough for Waves and Wyn to pull Nicole up. Unfortunately doing so cost Dolls his life. He knew he was dying from whatever BBD had done to him, so he used the last of what he had to protect his family. Xavier Dolls died a hero.
At the end of the episode, we see the Mama Earp Wynonna has conjured show up again. She, as well as Waverly, encourage Wynonna to let Dolls go. It’s a sad and tragic ending for everyone.
