“Wynonna Earp” Recap: Beaver Buzz for Everyone!
The last episode of Wynonna Earp was a major game-changer. Not only did we have to deal with Goononna, Gooverly, and very briefly Goocado (before she lost her head), but we also learned BBD is gone and that Wynonna is pregnant. Things are only beginning to pick up in Purgatory in “Whiskey Lullaby,” written by Caitlin D. Fryers and directed by April Mullen!
“Sleeping Beauty on steroids.” | The episode kicks off with Doc (Tim Rozon) and Dolls (Shamier Anderson) discovering the truth about Black Badge. BBD as they knew it is gone, and apparently BBD was never a government agency. They also get some inside info about The Widows that have been haunting Wynonna and secretly has Mercedes (Dani Kind) and Beth’s (Meghan Heffern) faces on.
Speaking of those Widows, they’re busy snacking on a priest in a church where they are searching for something. They end up going to a demon named Hypnos (Andreas Apergis) mansion–where he seems to have gotten his decorating tips from Flavor Flav–and use Tucker (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark) to make the demon freeze time in Purgatory by putting everyone so they can search for the second seal.
While this is going down with Hypnos, Wynonna is at the Homestead with Waverly in full-on “NOPE” mode about the pregnancy. She even pleads with Nicole (Katherine Barrell) to give her a case, any case, to distract her. But Dolls has a better idea for a distraction, he invites her to the diner instead. It’s clear to everyone but oblivious Wynonna that Dolls is about to tell her he has feelings for her.
But things don’t go as planned, because just minutes after arriving at the diner Hypnos’s sleeping spell goes into effect, knocking out all of Purgatory.
When Wynonna wakes due to Peacemaker zapping her, it is obvious by the size of her belly that months have passed. She’s going to need a bigger coat to hide her very large baby belly.

Time to get Beaver Buzzed | Once Wynonna wakes Dolls they rush to the Homestead to wake Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) and a naked Nicole Haught–they had just had a beautiful moment where the issue of consent was addressed again when they fell asleep–they realize they’re going to need LOTS of caffeine to stay awake. Everyone leaves, but Wynonna hangs back for a moment to look at her tummy, but course that’s when Nicole walks back in and sees everything.
Here is one thing I love about this show, any of the characters can be paired up for a scene and it will be amazing, this Nicole/Wynonna scene is no different. Nicole is caught off-guard, but very understanding and you know she won’t say anything. The scene feels very genuine.
Back at the clock mansion, Tucker is bored with the rest of the town asleep and The Widows need more time to search for the seal but Hypnos doesn’t think he can hold the spell much longer. Tucker mentions going to the salt flats to do something, and The Widows get distracted by the mention of Wyatt Earp’s heir.
The team splits up to look for whoever is responsible, and Dolls tells Wynonna that if people don’t wake up soon they will die. Wynonna is looking over Jeremy’s (Varun Saranga) notes when The Widows arrive. Wynonna fights them, but they’re too strong and throw her across the room before taking Jeremy’s notes for the seal. When Dolls finds Wynonna he sees her belly and realizes she’s preggers. Dolls is in disbelief, saying that everything has changed now. But she’s Wynonna Earp, she is going to continue to kick ass and take out demons, she won’t let being pregnant slow her roll! They are interrupted by a call from Nicole, they need to head to the Clock maker.
They find Hypnos, and find out if they kill him while everyone is asleep they all die. Hypnos agrees to cooperate, but only if they rescue Poppy (Kiana Madeira), his daughter. Tucker the Fu**er has her. Hypnos informs them that there are 3 seals, and Dolls realizes they have found the second seal already.
Waverly goes to Shorty’s to find Doc, who she finds in bed with Rosita (Tamara Duarte). Waverly needs an energy drink, and they find Jeremy when they look for them. He fell asleep looking for the seal, which just happens to be in Shorty’s. But that’s about all the luck these three have, because The Widows show up to shake things up a bit. They have icy cold breath that they use to freeze Doc, Waves, and Jeremy. Jeremy is able to shake it off and is about to save the day when he kicks an empty can and alerts the crazy ladies he’s up. Good try, buddy! The Widows break the seal, but Wynonna comes in to save the day!
Nicole reveals she has been tracking Tucker’s phone, and they realize he’s headed to the Homestead. Wynonna sends Dolls with Nicole to take care of Tucker, and DOLLS KISSES WYNONNA before leaving, telling her she’s amazing.
Tucker is the most messed up person on this show and proves it when he takes Poppy into Waverly’s room and tries to force her into the cheer uniform and brushing her hair the way Waverly would do it. Nicole runs in and Tucker decides to hold Poppy at knife point. Nicole ends up SHOOTING TUCKER in the shoulder, but before she could arrest him he says he did something they’ll–The Widows–kill him for, so he decides to take a flying leap out of the second story window.
When Wynonna saves Doc, Jeremy and Waverly, she decides it’s time to tell Doc about the pregnancy. He doesn’t appear to handle it well and walks out to go to work. Wrong reaction, Doc!
Hypnos reveals to Wynonna that no time has actually passed, it was all a hypnos-induced dream. But for some reason Wynonna’s child decided to keep growing despite the magic sleeping spell. Dolls forces Wynonna to kill Hypnos, he’s a demon and can be used again by others if they allow him to live.
Doc gives Waverly a note for Wynonna, because we are back in elementary school. Waverly tells Jeremy about Wynonna’s pregnancy, but that little adorable nerd already knew somehow.
Bye Bye Clootie | The Widows are a bit shaken by their encounter with the Earp Heir. Wynonna shot one of them in the arm, and now it’s not healing. Suddenly the doorbell rings, and they find the head of the Stone Witch, Constance Clootie, on their doorstep with a note from Tucker.
Earp Sister FEELS | The episode ends with the most emotional Earp sisters moment to date! Wynonna is crying to her sister, she doesn’t think she can be a mom. Waverly is the amazing little sister you didn’t know you wanted, wiping away Wynonna’s tears and telling her exactly what she needs to hear. She also passes on Doc’s note, which says “I am all in.” If the Earp sisters didn’t turn you into a puddle of feelings, Wynonna’s reaction to the note will. She collapses in tears in her sisters lap.
Other Thoughts:
- Thank god Nicole and Wynonna are finally getting along and trusting each other! They could both use a friend outside of Waverly.
- Dolls is amazing! He kissed Wynonna after finding out she’s pregnant, but still doesn’t fully want to admit his feelings to her.
- Wynonna and Waverly’s relationship gives me life! I won’t lie, tears were shed while watching that last scene.
Can we all agree that Melanie Scrofano deserves an Emmy for that final scene?!? This show is full of amazing actors telling amazing and important stories, and it’s only going to get better from here! Why do you think Peacemaker woke Wynonna up? We’re halfway through the season, what do you think will happen in the rest of it?
Be sure to watch Wynonna Earp Friday nights at 10pm on Syfy.
