Friday night, what is arguably the best episode to date and definitely one of our favorite episodes of television ever, of Wynonna Earp aired. The episode was brilliant from start to finish, and was one hell of a roller coaster ride! The titillating episode, titled ‘She Ain’t Right’, was written by Ramona Barckert and directed by Ron Murphy.
“She’s just putting on her face.” | Let’s kick this recap off by talking about the Gardner family. In this episode Tucker (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark) sees his oldest sister Mercedes (Dani Kind) sitting at the table, eating a plate of bacon. First off, thank god Mercedes is still alive! But, it’s evident that something is very different about her, something even Tucker notices and feels like he should report, but not before inquiring about his other sister, Beth (Meghan Heffern). Mercedes just tells him she’s “putting her face on”, but as soon as he leaves we hear her scream.
So the scrawny idiot walks into the Purgatory Sheriff’s Department to report his sisters acting weird to Nicole (Katherine Barrell). Nicole is all snark with him until he brings up Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) has been acting weird. Nicole’s demeanor changes and she gets very defensive of her girlfriend. Tucker offers to talk to the youngest Earp, stating that he isn’t a bad person. But the tone he says it in says the exact opposite.
Later when Tucker returns home he is greeted by Mercedes telling him they’ve “all” been waiting for him. Never trust someone when they say “all” when referring to what should be two people. She opens a door to reveal the real Merced is coming and they need his help, They’re willing to give him anything he wants in return, and what does he want? A girl, presumably Waverly. YOU STAY AWAY FROM OUR BABY GIRL!
DollsZilla? | Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson) returns in full force this episode! Once Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) figures out Dolls is in the barn, she goes to rescue him. After a bit of a struggle–Dolls is trying to fight whatever he’s turning into– Wynonna knocks him out and brings him to Rosita (Tamara Duarte) and Doc (Tim Rozon). Rosita says the drugs he needs aren’t ready yet, and Doc suggests bringing Jeremy (Varun Saranga) into the fold, an idea Wynonna is very against at first but eventually gives in to.
And it’s a good thing Wyn went to Jeremy, because he was able to tell just through his sense of smell that they were using too much ammonia in Dolls’ “anti-demon” juice. Jeremy rushes to Shorty’s and gets there just in time to stop Rosita from injecting Dolls. That much of the drug will kill him since he’s been off it so long.
Per Dolls’ instructions, Doc ties him up so he can’t hurt anyone. They have a lovely bro moment and Dolls says he was brought back to Purgatory by a man named Juan Carlo– who is he really?!?–who told him something has been broken, could he be referring to the seal from episode 202?
Later, Rosita is waving the drugs around in a taunting way and Dolls takes them from her, injects the whole syringe, and rips the chains from the walls yelling at Rosita to run. She locks him in the basement, thinking it’ll hold him. Instead, Dolls has incredible timing and busts out right when the gang needs him most. He walks toward the attacker and UNLEASHES FIRE FROM HIS MOUTH, making the demon quite crispy. DOLLS BREATHES FIRE. DOLLS IS A DRAGON.

“I just wanted to go all Wynonna for once.” | The main arc of the episode is where most of the action is at, and it revolves around the Earp sisters. The episode opens with Gooverly walking outside in the morning in the middle of winter without a coat. She’s carrying a silver knife and Dolls’ dog tags, while she quickly stashes away when Wynonna approaches. This is the moment when Wynonna finally notices that there is definitely something up with Waverly. It upsets her enough to even apologize to Nicole later in the episode for how she acted when Nicole brought up Waverly’s strange behavior.
Waverly goes undercover with Lucado (Kate Drummond) for some briefcase stolen from BBD. Lucado promises it’ll be easy and that there’ll be backup if they need it. The two of them go to a cocktail lounge called Ba-Ding! Ba-Ding!, where Waverly sneaks in and tries to find the briefcase. Things don’t go as planned and Waves ends up on stage as the entertainment and sings her adorable little heart out, spotting the briefcase and the man carrying it. She decides to follow him after she gets off the stage and hears the deal for the briefcase go down. The buyer is willing to pay up to 4x the agreed upon price for it, but the man holding it doesn’t give, he instead shoots him.
At this point Wynonna has found Lucado, realized there’s no backup and her baby sis is in trouble, and goes in after her. She finds Waves right before they’re caught by the murderer (Billy MacLennan), who is a real douche, and his bodyguard, Cujo (Maureen Jones). The douche bag ties the Earp’s to chairs and tries to get info out of them, he knows they’re BBD and wants to know what’s in the suitcase. When neither Earp talks he decides to leave them for a moment to go get his tools.
While he’s gone the sisters open up to each other. Waverly feels bad no one trusted her to do this mission on her own, then she finally opens up about the goo she touched after Willa died. Wynonna still has her phone, so she tosses it to Waves who uses her heel to use siri and call Doc.
When Mr. Douche and Cujo return they discover the phone and decide it’s time to take things up a notch. He unties Waves and puts her hand in a clamp, and at that time Waverly reveals she knows the initials on the case are for Edwin Earp, but she doesn’t know what the combination is. I guess Mr. Douche didn’t like that, so he CUTS OFF HER HAND–this is where I stood up and screamed a real life scream while watching.
Wynonna got her hands free and was struggling to fight Cujo when Doc arrives. He has a badass shoot out and gets a new hat! Wynonna and Waverly get free and run, but the douche follows. Waverly is not very pleased with what he’s done to her and kicks him right in the gonads, atta girl! Finally Doc gets through all the baddies he’s fighting and saves the sisters. He takes care of Waverly while Wynonna runs around in a panic saying she has to get her sisters hand so they can reattach it. Suddenly we see Gooverly for a moment, then Waverly reveals that her hand is fine. GOOVERLY GREW HER HAND BACK.
“I am so sick of fighting her. She’s so strong.” | Back at home, Waves figures out the combo for the briefcase and they open it, revealing a plate. Now that they’re out of danger, Wynonna wants to talk to Waverly about the goo. Gooverly decides it’s time to make a full appearance for Wynonna. Wynonna threatens it with Peacemaker, she’s already killed one sister, why not the other too? Gooverly says she’s exhausted from fighting Waverly so much and from regrowing her hand. The demon says it’s not having fun in Waverly, then leans in and KISSES WYNONNA, transferring the demon from Waverly to her big sis. Uh-oh.
HOLY. CRAP. What an amazing episode! It contained everything Earpers could have wanted, and more! The Gardner’s are going to be a huge issue moving forward, Dolls is a dragon, and Wynonna has become Goononna! The goo demon that’s taken hold of the Wynonna now because she’s going to be much easier to control than Waverly, probably because Wynonna has been fighting her whole life and is tired, whereas Waverly wants to be in control of her life and is willing to fight tooth and nail for it.
Don’t miss Goononna on the next episode of Wynonna Earp, Friday at 10pm on Syfy!
