Everything We Know About Season 5 of AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead”
OMFGTV was present for the Fear the Walking Dead panel and pressroom at WonderCon 2019, and we found a bit out about the upcoming fifth season! Present for the panel and pressroom was the majority of the cast plus the showrunners and creator. Here’s what we learned:
- A major theme this season is redemption and trying to seek it. Colman Domingo commented on it saying the theme is “people trying to find redemption, trying to make amends with their past.” The group continues on trying to spread Madison and Polar Bear’s mission of helping people, but according to Andrew Chambliss, some characters might learn that “perhaps helping other people isn’t enough to seek their own redemption.”
- In their search of potential redemption, they are offering unconditional help to those they come across, and no one is used to that.
- This season we will see challenges that are completely new to the Walking Dead universe. At the panel it was teased that there will be nuclear walkers this season, and they can hurt beyond just biting. Maggie Grace even teased a very dramatic change this season. “We’re thrust into contact with a much wider world and a new part of the Walking Dead universe. Our world is expanding in a way that’s sort of paradigm shattering.”
- We are going to learn more about Al’s backstory, and we will see her become more vulnerable.
- John and June are going strong! In the trailer we see them share several kisses, and Garrett Dillahunt and Jenna Elfman both agree that “if you’re a fan of John and June, you’ll be satisfied.”
- Charlie has to find the balance between being a child and being an adult this season. “I think it’s gonna be real exciting to see her kind of try to find that balance of being almost an adult in their world,” says Alexa Nisenson. She continues “But also kind of being a kid and seeing this world through a kids eyes.”
- Alicia is doing the only thing she really knows how to do, protect people. Alycia Debnam-Carey says, “Since the loss of everyone in her family, she’s really trying to assert herslef as a protector of the group. And that’s really the only thing she know how to do at this point.” But being a protector isn’t Alicia’s true journey this season. “The real journey for her,” says Debnam-Carey, “is the emotional and mental journey of how to let people back in again.”
- Daniel Salazar returns this season, and Ruben Blades surprised everyone by showing up, but could not reveal anything about what his character has been up to or what his role in this season will be.
- Dwight will be crossing over to Fear! But just like Ruben, Austin Amelio couldn’t really share anything other than his character will be on the show.
