Witches of East End Recap: Death Hangs In the Air

209-smells-like-king-spirit-recap

Witches of East End delivered the most shocking episode ender of the series this week with the death of not one but two major characters! But let’s rewind a bit to see what led up that…

“I am a smart stalker lady and a bad ass bitch!” – Freya

This week, Freya is determined to get Killian’s witch wife, Eva out of the picture because she’s definitely up to something! Go Freya for finally acknowledging this! Not to mention, sneaking into Killian’s house and snooping around. When Freya returns to his house, this time with Killian, they find a shriveled up Eva ready with an info dump as to why she is the way she is before them now, before she dies. Here it is:

Eva was born a mortal. Then she met a warlock. He turned her into a witch and gave her eternal life if she pledged herself to him. Eva got pregnant. With a child warlock. As long as she got pregnant with a child warlock before her previous child died, she’d stay powerful and young. With her daughter (who we thought was her grandmother) dying, Killian became candidate number one.

Okay, so with Eva gone – yay! – Killian is now free from her spell. Not only do his memories return but his anger towards Dash surfaces as he realizes that Dash left him to die. The two have quite the physical altercation after that and at this point, it’s unclear what damage they’ve done to each other physically. It is clear though, with the mess they made, that the spell keeping Dash’s murder victim under the sea is now broken. Leave it to Dash to make a mess of things and bring things down for himself while he’s at it.

Before the brother banter, Dash confronts Ingrid about one of her past lives and a past love who is Dash’s grandfather, Archibald. And Ingrid puts the pieces together that their past lives are repeating. Dash insists he’s not evil like Archibald but Ingrid knows it’s very possible that he is. She does her best to stay on guard.

Meanwhile, Frederick backs out of killing his girlfriend so after getting the crap beat out of him by Tarkoff, Frederick runs home to Mommy for help. Finally, Joanna and Wendy are up to speed on telepath, Tarkoff who’s been playing both sides, spying on the good side and reporting back to the King this entire time. It turns out, the King is sick and needs a body to inhabit. The Mandragora failed to find the King a host. Now it’s Tarkoff’s turn. And he has his eyes set on Wendy’s lover boy, Tommy. Ah! But that doesn’t work, so he goes for Ingrid and Freya! Oh no! And wow wow wow! What a conclusion to an episode! Tarkoff killed Ingrid and Freya! And there are still three episodes until the season finale so what does this mean for the Beauchamps? Do you think Wendy will sacrifice herself so Joanna can get her girls back? Could you imagine a season three without Wendy? Oh no, I really don’t want to!

Before the Freya and Ingrid revelation, Frederick goes so far as to kill Tarkoff to prove his loyalty to his family, after they find out the King’s spirit was inside of him the whole time but based on the preview for next week, it doesn’t seem like Tarkoff died. Any theories?

As incredibly shocking as this week’s episode was, it must be said that Jenna Dewan-Tatum totally owned this episode! The look on Freya’s face when she realized the King’s spirit was in Frederick and it was about to be removed… her body language when Killian, under Eva’s spell, said that he doesn’t trust her around his wife. Whoa. Jenna Dewan-Tatum is quite the actress! I am impressed! It’s really something special to see someone’s acting grow over time and this moment especially was Jenna’s time to shine. Stellar performance!

Now the big question. What do you want to see take place in the final three episodes of the season?

Witches of East End airs Sundays at 9/8c on Lifetime.
