In episode 8 of SYFY’s final season of Van Helsing we see the group deal with the fallout of Julius’ death, explore a cave, and reunite a feral vampire father with his young daughter. ‘Deep Trouble’ was written by Gorrman Lee and directed by Jacquie Gould. Here’s what went down!
Running | The episode kicks off with Violet (Keeya King) drawing a portrait of Julius into their book so he will never be forgotten. Axel (Jonathan Scarfe), Jack (Nicole Muñoz), and Ivory (Jennifer Cheon Garcia) are relaxing and taking inventory when a helicopter spots them from above and begins shooting at them. All four run and eventually make it into an abandon tourist mine. Thinking it’s the perfect cover from the chopper they grab a map and head down the tunnels.
Papa | It’s not long before the group gets attacked by a feral vampire in the mine tunnels. They try to shoot it, but that triggers a cave in that splits the group in two. The Van Helsing sisters are together on one side with the map, while Axel and Ivory are on the other side with the compass that will allow them to follow Jack and Violet out.
As they follow the map towards the exit, Jack and Ivory stumble upon a young girl who appears to be living alone in the mine. They follow her when she runs from them, and she leads them to her home. They give her food and realize that the feral vamp that attacked them earlier is her father, her Papa. They agree that they want to help turn the girl’s father back human, and set off to look for him.
Meanwhile, Axel is attempting to give Ivory love advice on dating a Van Helsing. He warns her not to do it because of what happened to him and Scarlett. They end up getting attacked by the feral vamp and Ivory is about to kill it when Jack shoots her in the chest.
Reunion | Ivory immediately heals, and Jack quickly explains the situation to Ivory and Axel. They come up with a plan to lure the girl’s father to them and turn him back. Of course the plan doesn’t go as smoothly as they would have liked, but in the end they accomplish their goal of making him human again. The father and his daughter Emmett (Avionne Marie Dean) are reunited again.
After leaving the father-daughter pair, Axel decides it would be safer for the group to split up. It would make their odds of making it to D.C. better, and they can meet up once they make it. Violet and Axel go one way, while Jack and Ivory go another. But before splitting up, Axel takes back everything he said to Ivory earlier about loving a Van Helsing. He tells her to love fast and hard, which is what I hope we see!
