“Van Helsing” Recap: What’s Going on with Vanessa???

It’s been a few episodes since we’ve seen Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) on Syfy’s Van Helsing. But their latest episode has remedied that, dedicating the entire episode to the show’s star character and what’s going on with her. ‘Base Pair’ was written by Jackie May and Michael C. Natchoff and directed by their very own Paul Johansson, who also plays Dmitri.

Mom? | Vanessa wakes up in the BlakTek facility, understandably freaks out a bit before meeting a woman named Abigail (Colleen Winton) and the scientist claiming to look for a cure, Dr. Harrison (Johnny Riordan). Abigail claims to have worked with Vanessa and Scarlett’s mother when they were children, even claiming to have known them. And the doctor said his father worked with -them all as well. But after hearing that Scarlett is actually alive, Abigail reveals to Vanessa that she’s their mother.

Free Him | Dr. Harrison really wants Vanessa to open the crypt of the Elder, and it appears he is trying to use Abigail to manipulate her into doing it. Vanessa discovers Harrison’s secret, his father did not work there when Vanessa was a child, he did. He’s somehow used vampire DNA to engineer a way of not aging and has been using it for decades. Is this what he really needs the elder’s DNA for?

Liar | So remember when Abigail claimed to be Vanessa and Scarlett’s mother? Yeah, total BS. Her and Dr. Harrison were working together to try to manipulate Vanessa. They were also testing her blood to look for something, but Harrison is certain that whatever it is Vanessa doesn’t have it, maybe Scarlett does. Because Vanessa doesn’t have it, Abigail doesn’t see a reason to keep Vanessa around now that she’s figured everything out. She shoots her several times in the chest, but we know Vanessa can heal from that. But Abigail ends it by shooting Vanessa one more time, in what looks like the head.

Can Vanessa heal a head shot? Or is this the end for her? What do you think Vanessa’s fate is?

Van Helsing airs Thursday nights at 9pm on Syfy.
