Van Helsing Recap: “Nothing Matters”
Episode 6 of Syfy‘s hit new show Van Helsing is definitely the best thus far! It followed multiple story lines, catching us up with each character, and brought Vanessa back to the hospital. It also contained lots of action and dark humor as well. Here is OMFGTV’s recap of Van Helsing’s sixth episode, “Nothing Matters.”
“Quaid, the others, all dead. You’re a traitor.” | Gustov (John DeSantis) and Quaid (Jennifer Copping) are leading a group through the weapons building using Sheema’s (Naika Toussaint) stolen map. Quaid refuses to send a scout ahead, and that costs her. When she returns she is no longer human. John realizes it is a trap and tells the others to fall back, but they’ve been flanked by more vamps. When Gustov returns he interrogates Sheema, accusing her of betraying them to the vampires. Suddenly, Rebecca (Laura Mennell) bursts in, kills Gustov, and tells Sheema she is going to use her to get to the others.
“Twinkle, twinkle, little star…” | When we meet back up with Vanessa (Kelly Overton) and Susan (Hilary Jardine) they are still being hunted down in the sewers. Vanessa gets bit while killing a strange pale creature that attacks them. Instead of rapidly healing, this bite actually causes her to pass out. Once Vanessa regains consciousness her and Susan continue to search for a way out. Susan decides to tell Vanessa a secret she has never told anyone, she had a kid when she was younger and gave it up. She wants Vanessa to know that she can sympathize with her feelings over losing her daughter. Lucky for them, they find a way out and make it back to the hospital!
“Ya got a pencil? . . . Great. Take it, and jam it up your ass.” | Back at the hospital we see Catherine (Sarah Desjardins) and Callie (Macie Juiles) are exploring the hospital when they come across several “keep out” signs, but choose to ignore them. Their decision not to heed the posted warnings almost cost them Callie’s life when one of Axel’s traps almost kills her. Seeing Callie almost die pushes Catherine to her breaking point. Brendan (Terry Chen) tries to convince Axel to tell him where the rest of his traps are, but Axel refuses to help the ones holding him captive. Because Axel refuses to cooperate Catherine decides to take matters into her own hands by trying to kill Axel, unfortunately for her that plan fails miserably and Brendan is forced to intervene. Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl) spies on Brendan and his crew while they discuss what to do with their prisoners and reports that they have decided to kill them all.
“I’ll be freakin’ Switzerland as far as you’re concerned.” | Doc (Rukiya Bernard) fills Vanessa and Susan in on what’s been happening while she cleans Vanessa’s wound. Vanessa convinces Brendan her and Susan are no threat and will leave as soon as she’s better, but she secretly tells Doc a plan to pass to Axel to get them out. While Doc passes along the message, Vanessa tells Callie they are going to play hide-and-seek and Callie can’t come out until Vanessa gives up.
“We never said we were gonna kill you” | Susan proves Vanessa isn’t the only badass when she takes out one of Brendan’s men with a frying pan, setting Vanessa’s plan in motion. Axel is able to fulfill his end of the plan, which involved sneaking out of the cell and murdering as many of Brendan’s people as possible. They decide to exile the remainder of Brendan’s people instead of killing them. Brendan pleads for them to only exile him so his people can survive, he even claims he was never going to kill Axel’s people. That last part earned Sam a quizzical glance from Axel, but they stick to their guns and exile them.
What an incredible episode! We saw Susan pull it together to save Vanessa and become a badass, Mohamad (Oliver Mahoro Smith) is alive, Julius is afraid, and our favorite survivors have taken their hospital back.
