Syfy‘s fifth episode of Van Helsing begins with Vanessa (Kelly Overton) in a muzzle, Sheema (Naika Toussaint) crawling through vents (again), and Axel (Jonathan Scarfe) pissed off about their new guests. This kick-ass episode is full of dark humor, great fight sequences, and lots of F-bombs! Here is OMFGTV’s recap of Van Helsing’s fifth episode, “Fear Her.”
“Never say I can’t be merciful.” | When we first see Sheema she is back in her environment, the air vents of a building. She’s sneaking into one of the vampire guarded buildings to steal plans to help her friends rebel. Unfortunately she isn’t as sneaky as she thought and gets caught. But it seems to be Sheema’s lucky day when the vampire decides to let her go. When she returns to her people she shows them the map and how they will steal the vampires weapons: underground tunnels.
“A test!” | Julius (Aleks Paunovic) has decided that he wants to take his mothers advice and use Vanessa to regain power. He decides they need to test her abilities so he calls for a test. And who is the vampire that volunteers? None other than Susan (Hilary Jardine), her old neighbor and BFF! Susan tells Vanessa she killed her daughter, provoking Vanessa into a fight. Vanessa decides to try out her new favorite trick again and bites Susan to turn her human. Once she’s human the two of them try to escape.
“If we go down there we’re probably gonna die.” | Susan leads Vanessa down to the sewers, but warns her that this is a very dangerous plan. The vampires are afraid of whatever is down there so it’s their best chance at escaping, but Susan seems very hesitant. Julius orders his cronies down into the sewers to follow, and with a few threats and some bribery they follow orders.
“Run!” | Susan needs a quick break to catch her breath, while they rest Vanessa asks her about Dylan. Susan reveals she did not actually kill Dylan, that was vampire Susan talking not the real one. Dylan was taken by the police after Vanessa died and Susan was unable to track her down before she turned. When they’re ready to keep moving they discover the flashlight no longer works, and it sounds like there is something close.
“We got a new rule: there’s no secrets in my house.” | When we return to our survivors in the hospital we see Axel and Doc (Rukiya Bernard) arguing over whether they should tell the newbies about the Cynthia murder. Unfortunately they weren’t able to decide whether to tell them or not when the man they are treating from the new group gets killed. He is also missing a finger. When Brendan’s (Terry Chen) group finds out they grow furious at learning they were kept in the dark about a murderer. With John’s (David Cubitt) help, the new group goes rogue and locks Axel and the rest of the gang up. John begins to act suspicious so Brendan decides to lock him up as well. Once in the cell John begins to blame everyone else for the murders, causing everyone else to do the same.
“Don’t worry about me, guys. I’ve survived out there before, I’ll do it again.” | Brendan decides that Axel and his group are too dangerous to be left inside the hospital, so they are going to exile them. So everyone doesn’t have to try to survive outside the hospital walls Mohamad (Oliver Mahoro Smith) decides to take the blame for the murders so only he is exiled. Everyone, including Brendan, knows it wasn’t actually him, but someone has to take the blame for it. Sam is very upset when Mohamad has to say his goodbyes, he even yells something along the lines of “take me, I’m a killer”, but everyone ignores him. Could this be Sam confessing to the murders? Once Mohamad leaves the rest of the group decides figuring out who the real killer is can take a backseat to escaping and taking back the hospital.
