“The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season” Now Available to Own on Blu-Ray & DVD
THE OTHER SIDE | At the end of Season 6, an exhausted Bonnie reached out to save and bring back Alaric to the real world before she did Damon, ultimately causing him to be stuck in the other world. Why she saved Alaric before Damon is a question only showrunner Julie Plec can answer.
The two polar opposites spent the majority of the season in a sort of purgatory, and while they spent all that time together trying to figure out how to return to their family and friends, a new-found friendship formed between the two. It was a beautiful dynamic for this unlikely pairing.
THE BAD SIDE | The Vampire Diaries has had quite a few villains throughout the seasons, but it was this season’s big bad, Kai Parker, who is probably our favorite of the whole series by far. Not only is he downright evil, but he’s also sexy as hell! At times he’s even adorable! Hard to hate someone with a face like that!
Kai’s storyline with Bonnie on the other side was an emotional roller coaster ride, from seeing him at his most menacing point, to his most vulnerable. The betrayal he faces from Bonnie was heartbreaking to watch. Like most bad guys on the show, they don’t last very long, and in Kai’s case, his final scene leading up to his gory death will be one of the most memorable moments in Vampire Diaries history.
THE DARK SIDE | On top of the list of the season’s many highlights was finally getting to see Caroline’s bubbly, cheery, optimistic and infectious personality disappear as her humanity switch was turned off. When we spoke to her portrayer, Candica Accola, in 2013, she told us it would be “really nice” to see and show her dark side.
“We’ve kind of already seen the dark side of a lot of characters,” she said referring to Stefan, Bonnie, Elena and Jeremy. “I’m sure we’ll see Caroline have some sort of a breakdown.” Boy, did we ever!
BOTTOM LINE | Season 6 of The CW supernatural drama, while not as compelling as seasons past, still managed to deliver many shocking twists and turns we have come to expect and love from the show. The final chapter for Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert came to a satisfying conclusion and felt like a proper send-off for the character. And while we’re going to miss her, we look forward to her inevitable return near the series finale.
