Elena and Co. will be trading in their stakes for books when The Vampire Diaries returns this fall. After four years of high school — which we rarely saw them attend unless there was some sort of dance or fundraiser involved — they will all be transitioning into the college life.
We chatted with Caroline’s portrayer, the beautiful Candice Accola, during the San Diego Comic-Con where she talked about her character’s life after high school.
“I think it’s actually going to be a much more normal existence for the girls,” Accola shares about the changes college brings. “I think it opens up a great opportunity for the girls and Caroline also to have a new life.”
Caroline’s new life at a new school will also bring new faces into the picture. Accola tells us that while she wants Tyler and all of Caroline’s best friends to be with her at college, the Tyler/Caroline relationship may be in jeopardy and fans of the pair are “not into that.”
“I think it would be really fun for Caroline to be single in college,” she says. “Caroline is getting to college and realizing that there’s a whole other world out there and that there’s other people. She’s still trying to hold onto the core, her roots back at Mystic Falls, but she’s definitely got her eyes a little bit more open.”
What fans love most about Caroline is her bubbly, cheery, optimistic and infectious personality, and while she says it would be “really nice” to see and show her dark side, Accola does have her concerns. “We’ve kind of already seen the dark side of a lot of characters,” she says referring to Stefan, Bonnie, Elena and Jeremy. Though we won’t get to see that side of Caroline anytime soon, she is hopeful Caroline goes there before the series ends. “We’ve got a couple more seasons to go. I’m sure we’ll see Caroline have some sort of a breakdown.”
The Vampire Diaries premieres Thursday, October 3, on The CW.
