“The Umbrella Academy” Recap: Some Things You Can’t Jump
“The Umbrella Academy” continues in its second episode, “Run Boy Run,” as Five sets out on a dangerous mission to find the owner of a prosthetic eyeball. Two new figures enter the fray, as Diego clashes with an ex girlfriend, who is also trying to solve the case.
The Day He Ran Away | A flashback reveals the day that Five disappeared: He was trying to convince Hargreaves that he could travel forward in time with his powers and when Hargreeves refused, he proved him wrong by jumping into the future- and getting stuck in the post apocalyptic world. He reveals all this to Vanya in present day and she is hesitant to believe him, leading to Five leaving her apartment with a prosthetic eyeball with a branding for a medical company on it.

Missing Things | Meanwhile, as two figures called Hazel and Cha-Cha rent a room at a motel, Detective Patch is dispatched to solve the donut shop shootout and runs into her ex, Diego, who tries to help her, but she tells him off. Luther, still suspicious of Diego’s role in Hargreeves’s death, goes to the gym where he works and finds a poster advertising Diego fighting on the same night of Hargreeves’s death.
Nothing We Can Do | Five coerces Klaus into pretending to be his father so they can get records from the medical company to find out who the eye belongs to. After Klaus acts crazy as ever, the hospital discovers that the eyeball hasn’t been made yet. Back at the mansion, Allison is upset after missing a court date with her ex husband over her daughter’s custody and snaps at Vanya when she tries to help. Later, Pogo cheers her up by showing her video tapes that Hargreeves kept of the children from surveillance cameras. After Pogo leaves, Allison finds another tape and is shocked by what she sees.
Five goes to a department store and meets a mannequin he calls Dolores, the only companion he had in the apocalypse. Then, Cha-Cha and Hazel arrive to shoot out the store and destroy Dolores, much to Five’s horror. Five manages to escape back to the mansion, where Allison tells Luther that he was right about their father’s death, and one last flashback/flash forward to the apocalypse reveals Five finding all the Umbrella Academy’s bodies in the rubble with Luther holding the eyeball.
