OMFGTV sat down with Hayley’s portrayer, Phoebe Tonkin, at the San Diego Comic-Con where she talked about what’s coming up for the former werewolf/current hybrid.
“Everyone’s still kind of dealing with the grief of having to give baby Hope away,” she tells us. “We kind of find Hayley and she’s a bit of a mess. She’s kind of lost and very angry and she’s probably kind of looking to Klaus a little too much for guidance and I don’t think Klaus is probably the best therapist in the world. I think her priority at the moment is jut to seek revenge on the person who tried to kill her child.”
“She’s emotionally just very lost and very broken,” she continues. “She’s trying to work out who she is. She had spent her life trying to work out who her family was and when she finally found out that she was part of a very strong respected family in the werewolf community and part of the royal family of werewolves, and then to have that taken away from her because now she’s a hybrid, she doesn’t know what she wants or what she’s fighting for anymore and that’s going to be really interesting to start at the bottom and then spend the season building her back up again.”
Now that Hayley is a hybrid and partially an enemy of the werewolves even though she still wants to protect them, she’s going to have to really prove that she’s their leader and that she wants the best for them. “At the moment they don’t really trust her and it really hurts her a lot because she thought that they were family and finally the family that she had been looking for so long.”
Another relationship that appears to no longer be intact in the upcoming season is of her’s and Elijah’s. “It’s kind of sad,” she says. “She’s closed herself off a lot because she’s just not ready to be emotionally attached to someone because she was so emotionally attached to her child, obviously, and to have that ripped away from her, she’s kind of built up a wall. She’s kind of stepping back from Elijah at the moment, which is quite sad, but it creates a nice dynamic between her and Klaus. That is definitely something that we’re going to explore in the second season.”
The Originals airs this fall on The CW.
