Note: If you haven’t watched the series premiere of The 100, stop reading now!
Now that The 100 has finally made its premiere on The CW, we can freely talk about that crazy cliffhanger. During the final moments of The 100 pilot, the much beloved Jasper (Devon Bostick) was speared right in the chest. Ouch!
Luckily, for those of you who haven’t seen any of the early promos for the show, this was a complete shock and you didn’t see it coming. We LOVED Jasper and seeing him go like that was not fun.
We spoke to Executive Producer Matt Miller after watching the pilot asked him about that killer ending: “[The show] needs to feel like there’s real-world stakes in it and that important characters can die. With Jasper specifically, the idea always was to cast somebody that you would love so you would hurt in the end, so it didn’t feel like this was the extraneous character that was the weakling that you knew they were going to kill at the end.”
“Part of the surprise is how he’s really kind of finding his groove by the end,” he continues, “and he has intimacy with Octavia and all of that. It feels truly surprising.”
But is Jasper really dead? Read the synopsis for next week’s episode, “Earth Skills,” for a little more information.
“In terms of it going forward,” Miller teases, “all I can say is tune in.”
The 100 airs Wednesdays at 9pm on The CW.
