The 100 Recap: Broken Glass & Hope Underneath

The 100 returned for season two tonight with the beginning of what is sure to be a killer season!

We open with Clarke sitting in an all white cell. As she looks through the tiny circular window, a person in a body suit, masking themselves from the contaminated, walks by to disinfect the opposite room. Clarke shatters the camera in her own room (there are cameras everywhere, not just the cells) before breaking herself out (getting a gnarly cut on her arm in the process) and approaching the woman in the suit. With broken glass in her hand, Clarke asks the woman, Maya where her friends are and forces the woman around the unknown building.

Reaching level 5, Clarke walks in on a bunch of people having quite a festive dining experience until one of the patrons notices Clarke, shouts, “Containment Breach!” and all hell breaks loose. At which point, a bewildered Clarke says, “Where the hell am I?”

She finds out from the leader of this Mt. that 48 of her friends, including herself were captured and “saved.” Even though the DNA of the 48 reads just the same as the grounders and these people on the ground whom she’s with now do not share the same DNA and will die if they go outside. Then, on level 3, Clarke is reunited with Jasper and Monty, all of them thinking that Raven and Bellamy haven’t made it.

Meanwhile, outside, Bellamy and two of the hundred are running from the grounders. They see that Finn has been captured and they make a plan to rescue him…but only Bellamy is brave enough to show himself when the time comes…which gets him beat to a pulp. It’s not until the two scaredy cats finally step up and almost get themselves killed does Councillor Kane and his crew come to the rescue, killing the man that held Finn and Bellamy prisoners.

But with the adults back, Kane makes sure to say that the kids are not in control anymore, even after its known that Murphy deserves any punishment he was going to get from the kids.

Before Kane comes to the rescue though and finds Murphy as well…Raven she shoots down a grounder just before Murphy comes in to die beside her so he doesn’t die alone. But she’s not ready to die… or accept Murphy’s sob story about his parents. Wow. Raven is one tough cookie. Anyway, they’re both sitting alone in pain for awhile before Kane comes.

Then there’s Octavia and her lover boy. He’s teaching her his language for safety when they discover in her already injured state that she’s been poisoned. He leaves her in search of the antidote at which point Octavia sees a super creepy creature in the woods beside her. Yikes! Hearing Octavia’s screams, he returns to her and brings her with him to his village…where the Lincoln Memorial is. I repeat, the Lincoln Memorial. Now that’s a head scratcher!

Back to Clarke, she’s concerned about being given a map with no exits while Jasper and Monty don’t see anything wrong with this safe haven. Only when Clarke swipes Maya’s key card, the “you’re not a prisoner” speech she was given earlier falls out the window since dozens of armed guards come running after her, guns in hand. But just when Clarke is about to open a hatch, Maya pulls a gun on her forcing Jasper to reel her in. His “you saved a bunch of people outside so killing these people inside is pretty contradictory” speech worked. She reeled it in. For now.

The episode closes with Chancellor Jaha on the ship sending a message down below for everyone to keep safe. He sends the message before his attempt to commit suicide… which gets cut short when he hears the sound of a baby crying! What! Is it real or just a Gravity moment? What do you think THAT is all about? And what was your favorite part about the finale?

The 100 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
