Teen Wolf Recap: Family Secrets

teen-wolf-319-letharia-vulpina-recap

Family secrets are revealed left and right in last night’s episode of Teen Wolf. Also in the February 17 installment, the possibility of another shrapnel bomb threatens Beacon Hills High, the nogitsune fools a foe, and a Hale receives some shocking news. Let’s go over some of the explosive stuff that transpired in “Letharia Vulpina.”

After being missing for a couple days, Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) shows up in the basement of Beacon Hills High, and Scott (Tyler Posey), Ethan and Aiden (Charlie and Max Carver) go through Stiles’ bag of mischief to see what the nogitsune has been planning. They’re learn that the dark spirit has placed traps in the woods which is where Coach Finstock (Orny Adams) and his students go running. Scott and his gang are able to stop anyone from getting hurt, but aren’t fast enough to save the coach from getting hit in the chest with an arrow.

Kira’s (Arden Cho) parents know so much about what is going on with the nogitusune. We’ve seen Kira’s mom, Mrs. Yukimura (Tamlyn Tomita), having a chat with possessed Stiles’ at the hospital in the previous episode, and in this one, she and Mr. Yukimura (Tom Choi) have a private chat in the classroom where she tells her husband that her remaining oni will become much stronger. While all this is going on, Kira is eavesdropping right outside the classroom door. Wouldn’t all this be much easier for Kira to go through if her parents just let her in on what the hell is going on?

Meanwhile, Peter (Ian Bohen) asks a favor from Lydia (Holland Roden) to find out what secrets his sister, Talia, has been keeping from him. Lydia is very hesitant at first because of their history with him biting her and all, but Peter tries to justify his attack on her by explaining that it was to bring our her banshee powers. After throwing Talia’s werewolf nails across the room, Lydia is able to hear voices which clues her in that Peter is not only an uncle to Derek, but a father to Malia!!! She keeps this a secret from Peter, but hopefully not for too long.

A bomb on a school bus sends the teachers at Beacon Hills High into a panic and upon further investigation, the beautifully wrapped present that was thought to house the shrapnel bomb, instead held Sheriff Stilinski’s (Linden Ashby) name placard for his desk. It was all a trick — as kitsune’s do, they are tricksters after all — and the whole thing was a misdirection for the real bomb which was in the sheriff’s office the whole time. The bomb explodes and Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) crouches over Mr. Argent (JR Bourne) and saves his life. The hunter expresses his gratitude to the werewolf.

Scott, Stiles and Kira head over to Dr. Deaton’s practice where they are met with several oni who are after the nogitsune. Scott and Kira are quite the team as they both able to take on the masked demon warriors. Scott sees Kira’s new fighting abilities and is very impressed. One of the oni stab Scott and he and Kira make their way inside to tend to his wounds. While Kira tries to pull out the sword, she is stopped by Stiles who knocks her head on the table and she falls to the ground unconscious. The whole time we thought it was Stiles’ true self, it was actually the nogitsune pretending to be him. The possessed Stiles watch Scott with a smirk on his face as he watched him take away the pain from Isaac (Daniel Sharman), Coach Finstock, and a deputy. He explains to Scott that the nogitsune feeds off of chaos, strife, pain, and created all these events so that Scott would heal them. He tells Scott to feed their pain into him, but as he absorbs all that and becomes more powerful, Dr. Deaton (Seth Gilliam) shows up and poisons him just in time. If the poison hasn’t killed the dark spirit inside Stiles, hopefully it won’t take much longer for him to be rid of that evil.

BEST BITES

 • We loved seeing Kira handle the electrical craziness in the opening scene. Watching her diffuse the live wire and watching her eyes glow for the first time was pretty cool. We also loved seeing her being kick-ass with the oni later in the episode.
