With the electricity still out in some parts of the town — including Beacon Hills High, which is still in session — Danny (Keahu Kahuanui) thinks of a great idea for the students to unwind and have fun: a blackout/blacklight party! However, when his venue of choice isn’t available, they go to the next best place they can find: Derek’s (Tyler Hoechlin) loft, of course.
Meanwhile, Kira (Arden Cho) comes to terms with her new-found “powers” and comes clean to Scott (Tyler Posey) about a weird, visible aura that surrounds her whenever she takes photos of herself with the flash on. During her near-deadly stint at the power substation where the maniacal mass murderer, William Barrow (Doug Jones), kidnapped and almost fried her to death, he managed to take a few photos of her with her own phone — a phone that is now in the possession of the sheriff’s department as evidence.
Fearing that the photos will expose her secret and bring up much more questions, she enlists the help of Scott and Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) to break into Scott’s father’s office to delete it. They use key cards made by Stiles to get through various areas of the station and when they find Kira’s phone, they’re let down when they find that the battery is dead. They find a charger and wait for it to power up so they can delete the glowing photos.
They run into a bit of a snag when Scott’s father shows up, but Stiles is able to distract him. Stiles comes up with a lie that his father knows a secret about the FBI Agent and that now he knows it as well. When Mr. McCall doesn’t refute the claim, it makes Stiles and us, the viewers, curious as to what the secret might be. Stiles is able to distract Scott’s father in just the perfect amount of time for Kira and Scott to accomplish their mission which gives her a boost of adrenaline which she loved. The night is still young, so Scott invites Kira to the blacklight party.
At the blacklight party he notices that the glowing aura surrounding Kira appears to be protecting her and also resembles a fox. But that’s not the only discovery Scott makes in Derek’s loft. Among the glowing, painted bodies of the ravers, the mysterious masked soldiers who materialized out of fireflies from the Nemeton crash the party and target Scott and his friends. A few of them are branded with what looks like a backwards number 5 behind their ears before their bodies fall lifelessly to the floor and freezing. Derek shows up and clears the loft so that just he, Scott and Co. and the scary soldier people are left inside. They make their attack and before it gets way worse, the sun starts to rise and they slowly dissipate and vanish into thin air.
Lastly, a bloodied Mr. Argent (JR Bourne) returns home before collapsing to the floor. He has some sort of connection with the masked men which is yet to be explained. And a key which Stiles finds on his key ring leads him to the chemistry room where he learns that the person who left the atomic numbers code and the orders for Barrow to kill Kira was himself!
What is going on?!

• Lydia (Holland Roden) said it all when she surveyed the room: “Oh! Finally,” she says when seeing Allison (Crystal Reed) and Isaac (Daniel Sharman) getting grabby; “Awkwardly,” when she witnesses Stiles work the dance floor; and “Predictably,” when she spies Aiden (Max Carver) grinding in between two girls.
