The Beacon Hills High lacrosse team meet had been delayed a day so they spend a night at a the closest, cheapest motel who will have them, The Glen Capri. And with a motel who proudly displays the number of suicides for all their incoming guests, you know that the property will be more than slightly off.
To say that crazy things happen at said motel is a sever understatement. And yes, they’re just staying the night, but as Lydia (Holland Roden) explains, “A lot can happen in one night.”
Let’s get into some of the horrifying madness that came with last night’s episode, “Motel California,” shall we?
All the werewolves — Scott (Tyler Posey), Boyd (Sinqua Walls), Isaac (Daniel Sharman), and Ethan (Charlie Carver) — have been transfixed and become sort of hypnotized at the motel. Might this have something to do with the fact that Alexander Argent, Mr. Argent’s (JR Bourne) uncle had offed himself in that same motel decades earlier?
The werewolves — all in their hypnotic state — experience some of their worst nightmares: Scott witnessing the murder of his mother; Isaac being tormented by his father and locked in the freezer; Boyd reliving the death of a loved one; Ethan transforming into a werewolf when getting intimate with a lover.
It doesn’t end there, when the body count displayed in the main office of the motel increases by 3, Lydia and Allison realize that three suicides are about to go down and they are not incorrect. Boyd finds a heavy safe and uses it to submerge himself in a bathtub full of water to drown himself; Ethan finds an electric saw and intends to use it on his midsection; Scott dowses himself in gasoline and plans to use an emergency road flare to light himself on fire.
Luckily all these suicide attempts are thwarted and everything turns out okay. There is quite an emotional moment during the Scott scenario where a stunned Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), Allison (Crystal Reed), and Lydia watch in horror as Scott prepares to go down in flames. Stiles gives Scott a speech about how important he is to him. “Scott you’re my best friend and I need you. Scott, you’re my brother.” We’re not going to lie, this moment had us in tears.
Meanwhile back in Beacon Hills, Ms. Blake (Haley Webb) takes a severely injured Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) back to his lair to try to fix him up. Naturally, there’s a lot of sexual tension between the two and they both start having sex. Sure, it’s not important at all to tell your wolf pack that you’re alive, and yes, you’ve got a nasty gash on your chest, but who has time to tend to that when you can have sex instead? But alas, just like The Beatles song goes, All You Need is Love. And during their steamy sex session, all of his injuries vanish into thin air.
The next morning, Coach Finstock tells the team that the meet was cancelled and they’re off to Beacon Hills. While on the bus, Lydia somehow discovers why all the craziness with the werewolves started in the first place. She takes Finstock’s whistle, blows it into her hands and finds remnants of wolfsbane; the whole time on their way to the meet, Finstock had been blowing that thing like crazy which slowly poisoned the werewolves causing them to behave that way at the motel.
Lastly, Mr. Argent finds out that his uncle Alexander was bitten by Deucalion (Giden Emery) which prompted him to kill himself with the shotgun in 1977. Looks like Deucalion is far more connected to the overall story than we initially thought!
BEST BITES
• It was great to see Danny (Keahu Kahuanui) and Ethan finally have an intimate moment. If only it wasn’t cut short by the fact that he was starting to beast out. And what exactly was that that was trying to come out of him?
• Is Lydia part psychic? We don’t know what the hell is going on with her exactly just yet, but so far we’ve deduced that she’s a death magnet and now she can somehow hear the voices of people who are dying or are about to die.
• I have to bring up the scene again Scott on the parking lot covered in gasoline. The moment with he and Stiles was just so emotional and we love that their friendship is so strong. We hope nothing ever happens to Stiles!
