“…even though we are at odds with each other, there’s something more important than that in the end,” was Keith Allan’s sneak peek of what will happen by the end of season 3 of Z Nation.
The actor chatted with OMFGTV a bit about his character, Murphy, and Z Nation a few weeks ago (read the first parts of our interview with him here and here) and we asked him about Murphy’s new role as a villain/antagonist. We wondered, will he ever have a “road to Damascus” moment like he teased Hector (Emilio Rivera) about?
“You know, I don’t know. I think Murphy, at this point, feels that what he’s doing is right, and he gave them every chance. You know, Warren (Kellita Smith) and Hammond (Harold Perrineau) and those guys—he gave them their chance and it’s just not working out for the human race,” Allan told us. “So I don’t think that Murphy sees himself as a villain, he sees himself as a hero. And so, I don’t think he’s gonna give that up. He’s gonna fight it to the end.”
As you may have noticed from the last few episodes, things are really heating up, and all the storylines are intersecting, from The Man’s (Joseph Gatt) infiltration of Murphy’s camp, to Warren’s takeover as leader of the Red Hand, to Murphy’s people, Addy (Anastasia Baranova), and Doc (Russel Hodkinson), racing toward Lucy.
Allan teased that while the groups do all intersect and conflict with each other, “we are all drawn together for a common cause, in spite of our differences, in spite of how much we disagree with each other. We do all come together for a common cause, so even though we are at odds with each other, there’s something more important than that in the end.” We aren’t certain who’s going to unite with or against whom, but we’re eagerly watching to find out!
We then asked Allan a few fun, non-plot-related questions. First of all, what the most difficult thing about season 3 has been for him: “Quite frankly, the most difficult thing for me has been not getting to be with the gang. For purely selfish reasons, as an actor, I really love these people, my other cast members. They’re so much fun, and I’ve gotten to know them over the past couple of years. And in this season, so much of my stuff is by myself—I’m by myself or with 10K, so I’m not getting to play with Warren and Doc and Addy so much. So I miss my friends!”
If the zombie apocalypse broke out, and the first object to his left was his weapon of choice, how dead he would be: “Oh, I’m pretty dead. I’ve got a pair of headphones. Pretty dead.”
And finally, what the longest his Murphy makeup has ever taken to apply: “That was probably—I’m gonna say 6 hours. [laughs] Yeah, that would have been one of the days where we had to do the scars—I think it was the day on season 2, episode 1, where I step out of the van, and I’m naked, and I go into the thrift store. And so they had to paint my legs, and my whole stomach, and my arms—just about everything. So I was just about totally blue that day, plus they had to do my face, which always takes a couple hours, and do all the scars on me, you know, which takes about 5 hours, so, yeah. I would say probably around 6 hours. Loooong, long day.”
