“Wynonna Earp” Exclusive: Showrunner Emily Andras Discusses ‘She Ain’t Right’

Syfy’s Wynonna Earp aired its fourth installment of the season on Friday, and it was arguably the show’s best yet! OMFGTV chatted it up with series showrunner and Executive Producer Emily Andras about the latest and stressful episode.

The main reason “She Ain’t Right” was such a success was because it centered around the Earp Sisters, which are the heart and soul of the show. “I just think episode 4 really speaks to the struggles of the sisters and the desire to keep someone in your life safe,” Andras tells us.

Emily credits much of the episode’s success to the actors who portray the Earp sisters — Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna) and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly). “I think Mel and Dom are so f***ing good together!” she says. “It’s so telling to me that there’s multiple scenes of them just sitting next to each other talking, and it’s some of the most compelling work we’ve seen yet this season.”

Melanie and Dominique do an excellent job of portraying Wynonna and Waverly’s relationship. Emily even goes so far to say “they do feel like real sisters.” And Andras reveals there’s many more amazing Earp sister moments to come! “If that’s your jam, you’re going to be happy this year.”

Another happy moment in this anxiety inducing episode is when Doc (Tim Rozon) finally gets a new hat. “It’s the best reunion story!” But why did Doc have to lose his hat in the first place? We like the idea of Doc losing something that was really definitive of him, shaking up his identity. Doc’s hat was like a fifth limb to him, and Emily thinks it was very fitting for him to get a new one while killing people. “It’s probably my favorite reunion of the year.”

The most shocking moment of the episode is when Waverly actually gets her hand cut off. Emily wanted to make it believable, so they decided to show the hand on the floor so the audience knew it really did happen. She wanted audiences to have the reaction of, ‘Oh my god, they actually did it!’

The highlight of the episode for many was before the hand chopping incident, when Waverly had to sing at a nightclub. Dominique is incredibly talented and knocked the number out of the park, but did you know that was shot the same week as the Cheerverly scene? “We block shoot two episodes at a time, so they were practically back-to-back!” What an exhausting week for Dom!

Emily knows the show wouldn’t be what it is if it weren’t for the fans, and she is so appreciative of them. “The fans have been incredible,” she gushes. “I really think they’re such an incredible group of people.” And it’s not just Emily that feels this way, the whole cast and crew do as well. “We’ve all felt it. There’s something amazing about the fandom where the people are so smart, they’re so engaged, they’re so kind.”

You hear that, Earpers? Keep doing what you’re all doing, the cast notices and appreciates it!

Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 10pm on Syfy.
