Van Helsing Exclusive: Trezzo Mahoro Discusses Mohamad’s Betrayal & His Hopes for Season 2!
Syfy’s new series Van Helsing just ended its freshman season, and OMFGTV had the pleasure of speaking with Trezzo Mahoro about his character Mohamad and his big betrayal, along with where he wants to see his character go next season.
If you have been keeping up with the show then you know that Mohamad has been a powerful ally and friend to Vanessa, only to reveal in episode 12 (“He’s Coming”) that he was betraying her to Dmitri the whole time.
OMFGTV asked Trezzo about the betrayal and if he knew about it ahead of time. “Oh no, I didn’t know until I read the script,” he tells us. “It definitely surprised me.” According to Trezzo, he knew Mohamad had some sort of twist coming, but it wasn’t revealed to him what it was until much later.
Trezzo also LOVED watching fans tweet their reactions to Mohamad’s betrayal live. “It was AWESOME!” he says. “Even I was yelling at the screen. For a second I forgot I was playing the character then went ‘Oh, right.'” He feels the betrayal shows that looks can be deceiving. “It just drove the point more, that even someone as innocent looking as Mohamad has a nasty side.”
Though Mohamad’s nasty side won out, his sweet side did shine through in the finale when he tried to apologize to Vanessa and helped her by giving her a knife. Trezzo attributes the scene turning out so well to Kelly Overton’s amazing acting skills. “Thank God for the extremely talented Kelly, there was a lot of give and take in the scene which made it much easier to shoot.”

As for that knife, we wanted to know what Mohamad’s intentions for that knife were. Trezzo explained that it was Mohamad’s was of saying, “It’s okay. Do what you gotta do.”
Now that the first season has come to an end, Trezzo has an idea of where he would like to see Mohamad go next season. “I’d like Mohamad to go face to face with Julius, I just think that’d be a fun scene to shoot. Aleks [Paunovic] is just a fun person to work with!”
Van Helsing will return to Syfy for its second season in 2017.
