“Vampirism is almost an expression of ego.”
If you watched episode 10 of Syfy‘s new hit Van Helsing then you know Doc has some major issues. OMFGTV recently spoke with Rukiya Bernard about her character’s struggle with being human again and theorized who the groups killer may be.
According to Rukiya, Doc has always been a little awkward and off-putting, and when she became a vampire, all that was gone.
“You don’t feel that insecurity as a vampire, it’s just kill and kill some more. And feel good. It’s hedonistic.”
Doc does feel guilty about her desires to kill, but she is what Rukiya considers a “tortured soul” and that is why she wants to return to vampirism.

“It was the first time she felt great about herself, despite having feelings and urges to kill. So I took it as that’s what she wanted to go back to.”
If you’re active on twitter you may have noticed that most fans think the killer in the group was not John (David Cubitt), but either Doc or Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl). We asked Rukiya if she could say anything on the hotly debated topic.
“I mean, Doc had urges to kill that were unfulfilled.” On the other hand, we also know from episode 10 that Sam is also capable of murder, so either could potentially be the killer.
“You could get completely blindsided,” said Rukiya, so don’t think Doc wanting to be a vampire again makes her guilty!
“Where do you go from there? Only the show can tell.”
Be sure to catch Van Helsing on Syfy Friday’s at 10pm!
