When Season 3 of SYFY’s fan-favorite series SurrealEstate returns, viewers will find that three years has passed since we last saw the crew at the newly-formed “Roman/Ireland Agency.” The brand new season also reveals that the agency has gotten brand new digs, which the agents have been working at for no less than six months.
With such a significant time jump, all of the characters on the supernatural series are at different stages of their lives since the end of Season 2. PopWire had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Series Creator/Showrunner George R. Olson for all the details on where the characters are now and what viewers can expect for the highly-anticipated new season.
“The three-year jump is very liberating because you can really kind of fill in the blanks on that and everything,” Olson tells PopWire. “Father Phil is still in Rome; August is still at Asdra; Susan’s big change in her life is that she lost her mother; Megan Donovan is now an ER doctor at a nearby hospital and still keeps in touch with Luke; And Luke is kind of Luke. It’s fun because he’s back at full power and he’s selling houses and he’s doing what he does and everything.”

When the creative team completed writing the new season of SurrealEstate, they noticed an overarching theme emerge, which was a Carpe Diem kind of idea. The team marveled at how so many of the stories tied back to the idea of seizing the day and to do things you want to do now. “Tell the people that you love, that you love them. Don’t put things off because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. I think that theme that just resonates through a lot of the episodes and a lot of the stories of our season. I feel very good about the stories that we tell in Season 3.”

One of the stories viewers will see unfold this season is of the relationship between Luke and Susan, whose work environment was shaken last season over a power struggle when the latter implemented some changes to the agency. At the end of the season, Luke showed his appreciation of her hard work by making her partner, effectively renaming “The Roman Agency” to “The Roman/Ireland Agency.”
“That’s one of the really wonderful things about Luke having made Susan a partner is that she feels now that she is equal and she very much is,” Olson explains. “Luke codifying that by making her a partner and putting the name “Roman/Ireland” up there, Susan being the kind of confident, strong woman that she is doesn’t feel like she has to overcompensate.

“Their partnership is a really graceful part of that,” he continues, “and we will see that partnership and that relationship kind of challenged when our big bad client kind of makes an offer to Luke that Susan would not necessarily approve of. So we’ll see that. Season 3, they’re very much working as a team, firing at all cylinders, very much there for each other gruesomely and professionally.”
Now that Sarah Levy is back full time for Season 3 of SurrealEstate after having a baby prior to production on Season 3, Susan is much more prominent this time around. And despite being possessed in Season 1 and getting sucked in by her house in Season 2, the series creator rules out that Susan’s return is anything but in the clear.

“Susan’s never safe,” Olson warns. “None of [them] are. But one of the many great qualities of Susan is she’s fearless and she doesn’t scare easy. So she steps into situations where she is always in peril, but also she’s in danger also of being alone. Not that she needs [a relationship] to make her whole, of course, but it is nice to have someone at the end of the day. And because she is not willing to settle, it’s very hard for her to find that shoulder to lean on and that’s something that we’ll be having a lot of fun with this season.”

After nearly a two-year hiatus, the showrunner encourages that if you’ve been a fan of the show or if you’re someone who hasn’t seen a single episode, Season 3 of the series is not to be missed.
“If you like our show, I think you’re really going to love Season 3 because it’s got all of the stuff,” Olson tells us. “It’s got the humor and it’s got the scariness that is not graphic and off-putting. And then it has the heart. It has the emotion that I think is very relatable because we’ve all had people in our lives that we loved and lost. And the thought of having them being in the attic with some unfinished business kind of interesting and kind of universal.
“To people who haven’t tried us, watch one episode. With all of our talk about emotion and all of this, we, number one, we want to be fun. I think we have a fun show; it’s a fun watch. Time seems to fly when you’re watching it. It’s good ghost stories, good emotional ghost stories, some good laughs, and a show that is really comfortable in its own skin. We really love making it. And I think you can see in our cast how much fun they’re having and that means something.
