Syfy is gearing up to unleash its new summer offering SurrealEstate to the world. The cast of the horror-comedy has been busy promoting the haunting series, sharing what viewers can expect and what they’re most excited for.
“It’s about relationships,” Sarah Levy says of SurrealEstate. “It’s about dealing with the world we’re living in and then dealing in this supernatural world.” Levy plays Susan Ireland, a newcomer and an integral part of The Roman Agency, an elite team of specialists that handle cases no one else can.

“This is, in essence, not a handful of ghost chasers, but rather a team of rare individuals,” explains Maurice Dean Wint (August Ripley), “qualified in their specific field, working together, collaborating, problem solving, with the end goal of selling a house. End of story. Ghosts are just a bonus.”
Even with a team of qualified individuals, however, there are many with house hauntings who don’t want to associate with the agency. “We’re the last resort for a lot of homeowners,” says Savannah Basley (Zooey L’enfant), “but in the opposite way as in they’ve tried absolutely everything that they possibly could [to get rid of those hauntings]. We’re kind of the last resort in that sense, but the best. We’re saviors. We just kind of come in and make everything magically work out again.”
Though SurrealEstate is filled with horror, it’s also definitely about the relationships building within the team. It’s one of the reasons why Basley loves the genre. “You can explore so many storylines in horror, things that maybe people wouldn’t feel comfortable exploring through a drama or through a comedy,” she says. “You can really get away with that in horror, and you can really touch on those deep things and make people think at home without making themselves feel too uncomfortable or too exposed.”

Interspersed throughout the horror are lots of comedy as well. It’s a blend that Maurice finds very appealing in the show. “For some people who see surreal storylines, ghost stories, horror stories, as terrifying and tense, then humor is the perfect way to dispel that sort of tension,” Wint says. “It’s a beautiful balance and a beautiful way to draw the audience in with that, and then let the tension off with a bit of humor.”
Drawing in that audience and bringing them along for this ride is something that Levy just cannot wait for. “I am most excited for viewers to see this world that has been created,” she says. “It is such a unique show. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve never read anything like it. I think it’s such a brilliant idea that I couldn’t believe hadn’t been done before, in a way. It just seems like it’s too good.”
