Ever since the introduction of new character Lomax in the back half of SurrealEstate‘s sophomore season, we’ve been in love with the character who left her family-run funeral home in exchange for a role at The Roman/Ireland Agency. The love is also felt from the fans and even the creator of the SYFY supernatural series.

PopWire recently had the pleasure of speaking with Series Creator and Showrunner George R. Olson, where he talked about why the character was created, writing for her character, and what’s to come for Lomax for the rest of the season.

“Elena [Juatco] brought her to glorious life and she’s just so great,” Olson tells us about the Canadian actress who portrays her. “And you’re going to love Lomax this season because she has just so much fun stuff to do and so many good lines.

“It’s like fighting over who gets the good line in this scene? Is it going to be Elena or is it going to be Savannah [Basley] as Zooey? That’s some of the really, really gut-wrenching decisions we have to make on set.

“We brought [Lomax] in because Susan was trapped in a damn house last season,” the showrunner continues. “So Lomax was that other sales associate that brought a very different voice and sensibility to the agency.”

In this week’s all-new episode of SurrealEstate, titled “The Gardener,” Olson reveals that viewers will get to go home with her for a little bit to see what her family is like.

“We find out a little bit more about her parents and what it was like growing up in the death care industry,” he says. “She’s still kind of balancing her decision of being in real estate versus working at a funeral home. So we have a lot of fun with that. She has just some wonderful, wonderful, wonderful moments throughout the season.”

We brought up the Season 3 Premiere, where in the cold open, Lomax has just a couple lines, but the delivery of those lines had us in stiches. It’s the way the actress/singer plays the character that makes her a fan favorite.

“[Elena] just owns those things,” Olson says of her delivery of the lines. “One of the tough things writing Season 1, we hadn’t cast any of these parts. So we were completely guessing [on how the lines would be delivered on screen].

“Now, I can write a line and I know exactly how Elena will slay it or how [Savannah] will slay it. And it’s so fun. I can’t tell you how much fun it is as a writer to know that someone that talented and that wonderful is going to be saying the lines.”

While Elena Juatco’s Lomax was introduced in Season 2 of SurrealEstate, it was the departure of another character that had us feeling downhearted. In the Season 2 opener, Tennille Read’s Megan Donovan said her goodbye to Luke on the doorstep of her freshly-cleansed house. At that moment, we were hoping we had not seen the last of her. Thankfully, the writers also love the character, and brought her back for Season 3.

“Megan, who I absolutely do love, I feel like she and Luke are such an interesting couple,” Olson says. “She is so driven as a doctor, very pragmatic, very science oriented. She just found it really, really hard to be in his world.

“When we rejoin [Luke and Megan] in Season 3, they have that comfortable friend relationship that of couples that maybe are not couples anymore, but are still friends. There’s something there that is just too strong to break. And so we’ll see Luke and and Megan kind of checking in with each other.

“She’s in a relationship now with another doctor, but there’s always that chemistry. And it’s the chemistry we saw in the pilot with the dog and the pork chops and the wine. And that will continue to rear up.”

We are hopefulthat Luke and Megan are endgame, and SurrealEstate creator ends with this last tidbit: “I don’t know what star-crossed lovers always look like, but you know?”

SurrealEstate airs Thursdays at 10/9c on SYFY.
