According to Revival Co-Showrunner Aaron B. Koontz, the game changes in the inaugural season’s seventh episode, “Too Many Secrets.” The aftermath of the Check warehouse raises more than just body counts; it raises the stakes across the board.

“Everybody knows that Mel was hurt,” Koontz tells PopWire in an exclusive interview. “And now she’s okay, presumably. It looks like she’s been healed.” That shocking development alone is enough to ripple through the town. But that’s only the beginning.

“What happens with all these people that just died at this warehouse?” Koontz asks. “You don’t just kill a bunch of people in a warehouse and then walk away from it. There’s going to be ramifications to this.”

Those ramifications drive the suspense in Episode 7, as the show explores the next steps following the brutal events with the Checks. “What are going to be the next steps after the Check warehouse in that situation? And what’s there? That’s something to definitely watch for,” Koontz teases. “How is that going to affect both what Em’s going through, Dana’s journey, and how is that going to thwart efforts to try to solve Em’s murder as well?”

This is also the episode where past scenes begin to shift in meaning. “There’s scenes that you probably don’t even realize were as important as they were that we’ve already had,” Koontz says. “Some of that’s going to start to recontextualize. We’ll start to realize [those scenes] meant something more than what they thought.”

For viewers who’ve been paying close attention, or plan to rewatch, Koontz promises rewards. “It was big for Luke and I to reward anyone who’s willing to rewatch the series. You’ll see something and you can go back and start to be rewarded and see things that were there from the get-go. It’s the stuff that we like to do.”

And yes, he warns, “the stakes get raised, and it gets a little crazy.” Just how crazy? “It might be time to tell Dad.”

Revival “Too Many Secrets” was written by Noelle Carbone and directed by Samir Rehem. The episode airs Thursday, July 24 at 10/9c on SYFY.
