SYFY’s Reginald the Vampire is underway in the back half of its sophomore season. With less than a handful of episodes to go until the season finale, PopWire caught up with one of the series’ stars Em Haine to look back the season so far and tease what’s to come.
While screening the remaining episodes of the season, we couldn’t help but notice that the fangastic series has a lot of heart and a lot of love. There are relationships of all kinds, including queer relationship representation, which is the perfect time, considering it’s Pride Month.
“It means the world, honestly,” Haine tells us in our exclusive interview. “As a queer person, when I get to read these scripts that have these diverse forms of love in them, I just feel so connected to the material and to the actors that play it.
“It’s essential for shows to be able to show diversity,” she adds. “That’s what people want; people want to see a storyline that has something that reflects them and all of their authenticity. I am so stoked that we have Todd and Mike, Nikki and Ashely. It’s beautiful.”
In a recent episode of Reginald the Vampire, “Blood, Sweat, and Glitter,” the supernatural series had viewers seeing double as Em Haine steps in not just for her character Sarah but for an alternate version of her as well. The actress exclaims that it was “so fun” pulling double duty for that scene.
“The wig, first of all, was so fun!” she says. “It was a really fun exercise. In the scene, when we’re filming it, we have a double that came in and she was wonderful — Charlotte — and she played opposite to me. She would read my lines, but of course, I had to project the character of Alternate Sarah in my mind when I would be reading as Sarah.
“It was a bit of a mind warp because you’re not just responding to the person in front of you, you’re responding to this projection in your mind of who is going to ultimately be standing there when they flip the camera around. It was a fun little exercise for me. I loved doing that. It made me think of The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan. She did the whole movie! Isn’t that wild?!”
What’s also wild is what’s to come for Sarah and the gang, and says the season of Reginald the Vampire is about to pop off! “The first half was just a warm up and the next episode, [“Terminal Eternity”], things are starting to peak. Stuff’s getting wild.
“We have this new director that came in, Justin Wu, he’s from Toronto, he was a phenomenal add to the show’s chemistry,” Em Haine shares. “He was so dedicated and had so many innovative ideas. Uriel’s lost his mind, Sarah’s right in the path of that, and there’s some real twists that are coming up.”
Reginald the Vampire airs Wednesdays at 10pm on SYFY.
