Killjoys: Aaron Ashmore and Luke Macfarlane Discuss Season 2 and Tease Finale

“We don’t make out in the last episode.”

Sorry Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane) ‘shippers’, Luke let slip last week that the pair will not be rekindling their romance in the Killjoys season 2 finale.

OMFGTV participated in a conference call with Killjoys Aaron Ashmore and Luke Macfarlane. We talked Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) and Davin’s emotional roller coaster ride from the beginning of the series’ sophomore ender.

We have seen throughout both seasons how the Jaqobis brothers intense emotions really drive this story. Aaron and Luke agree that not only do Johnny and Davin’s emotions play an integral role in their relationships with Dutch, but we also begin to see their roles flip.

“We see Johnny go from caretaker, to the lover, to this kind of reckless abandoned guy,” Luke says, “and D’avin is sort of the opposite of that.” He also mentions just how important the brothers are to Dutch, that she needs the polarity between them in her life to be strong enough to do what she must do.

Aaron had similar things to say about the brothers’ journeys, adding, These two men are very in touch with their feelings, especially Johnny. I think we really see a lot of that in D’avin this year too. He was such a tough guy in the first season, and we see him softening and falling into his humor and softer side.”

Aaron also mentions that by season’s end, John’s situation mirrors D’avin’s from where he was at the final episodes of its inaugural season. “By the end of the season, John is sort of falling off the deep end I think. And probably is where D’avin was last year.”

Season 2 has been full of shocking twists and big reveals, starting with rescuing D’avin and learning he can control the plasma, leading up to the reveal of Khlyen being Anela’s father in episode 209. Aaron and Luke were asked about the impact of the season 2 finale on their characters and were able to reveal where John is mentally.

“Well, of course there’s some big things that happen in the season finale, as any show,” Ashmore says. “There’s big revelations and there’s new information sort of exposed. So definitely, there’s a lot going on. I can say for John, that his path is definitely changed by the events that are happening in [episodes] 209 and 210 in a major major way– I think in a very unexpected way.”

“I did not see what was coming for John as we started the season,” he continues. “So I think that, for him, he’s sort of in a completely different space than where he started and I’m very curious to see where we pick up in season 3. It’s almost to the point where I’m like, I can’t even imagine what they’re going to do.”

The Killjoys season 2 finale airs Friday Sept 2 at 9 pm.
