A portal to another dimension has been opened on SYFY’s new series Astrid & Lilly Save the World — and it’s up to two unlikely heroes to close it before it’s too late. Along with the first teaser trailer released Thursday, the network also released the official key art for the series (below), which features the titular pair shining a light on the “end of the world-type” portal while mysterious beings cross over into our world.

High school is hard enough when you’re different, but when outcast BFFs Astrid (Jana Morrison) and Lilly (Samantha Aucoin) accidentally crack open a portal to a terrifyingly quirky monster dimension, it gets a lot more complicated. It’s up to them to vanquish the creepy creatures and save the world, becoming the badass heroes they were meant to be. That is, if they can survive the horrors of high school.

Astrid & Lilly Save the World was written by Noelle Stehman and Betsy Van Stone, who executive produce along with Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, and Samantha Levine. Danishka Esterhazy (“SurrealEsteate,” “Slumber Party Massacre” (2001)) serves as producing director. Blue Ice Pictures will produce.

Aucoin will play Lilly who is sweet-natured and intuitive with a passion for investigative photography. Morrison will play Astrid who is bold and unfiltered with a knack for “sciencey” gadgets. Together, their friendship proves that being classically unpopular is actually pretty damn cool.

Astrid & Lilly Save the World premieres Wednesday, January 26 on SYFY.
