In the fourth episode of Sweet/Vicious, we learn the inner workings of sorority pledge week, and maybe wish we hadn’t. The episode watches Ophelia go undercover as Fifi; the blonde Kappa legacy who just wants to be a sister. While dealing with the activities of her own house’s pledge week, Jules learns that maybe she isn’t as fine as she thought as the nightmares of her rape come back with force. Now a part of the Law Journal, Harris finds that he has been pigeon-holed into only covering race issues. To prove he is more than a one trick pony, he sets out to expose the truth about the recent ‘muggings’ on campus. “Tragic Kingdom” was written by Celeste Ballard and directed by Brian Dannelly. Here is what went down during pledge week.
MASTER OF DISGUISE | When Ophelia (Taylor Dearden) and Jules (Eliza Bennett) see a video of a pledge being violated as part of a particularly nasty hazing ritual, they decide to take down the entire Kappa house. They target the unholy trinity at the top of the Kappa ladder; Chloe (guest star Malese Jow) and her two right-hand-Lindsays. In order to get irrefutable evidence, someone (wink wink nudge nudge) will have to pledge. Ophelia takes one (or twenty) for the team and admits she has a bit of an in seeing as her mother is kind of Kappa royalty. After a makeover involving a blonde wig and a lot of pastel colors, Ophelia has become Fefe. She goes to the house and is welcomed with open (think boa constrictor before it kills you) arms by Chloe. She films her entire experience using her pearl-cam which she watches later that night. She is interrupted however by the sudden appearance of non-other than Mama Mayer herself, who is delighted to learn her daughter is finally drinking the Kappa Kool Aid.
While Jules is busy with her own house’s pledge week (which sounds so much fun can I go there!?), Ophelia attends a bit of a different ‘bonding’ exercise. The one upside (or so she thinks) of pledging Kappa is that her mom is spending time with her. Next on the Kappa agenda is the worst hot box imaginable. It goes about as horribly as one would expect and in the commotion of getting one of the pledges to the ER for a stomach pump, Ophelia picks the lock to a secret room and finds a server room befitting a cyber security firm. She and Jules discover that not only is the entire house bugged, Chloe is running a hazing website and raking in thousands off of it. It is deemed officially time to bring the pain and they take on Chloe and the Lindsays. They tell Chloe they are going to turn themselves in to the school and have the house disbanded. Ophelia, back to her green hair now that the mission is over, goes to visit her mother at the hotel. Instead, her mother brushes her off and tells her she must be going home now.
NIGHTMARES | Ophelia notices that Jules has been particularly chipper the last few days and asks her if everything is alright. Jules tells her that she is finally happy. She is enjoying things at her sorority house, her and Tyler (Nick Fink) and doing great, and she hasn’t had nightmares in weeks. Ophelia isn’t convinced this is a permanent upswing but doesn’t want to rain on Jules’ parade if she doesn’t have to. That night, Jules has her first nightmare in weeks, this time of Nate (Dylan McTee) crawling into bed with her. Kennedy (Aisha Dee) appears too, asking Jules why she didn’t tell her about Nate. She wakes up in a cold sweat. The next morning Ophelia picks up on the change in Jules’ demeanor but Jules tries to play it off still. At the Zeta house, Jules has another nightmare, this one involving Nate and Kennedy unmasking her as the vigilante outside of the Omega house. The Zetas decide to prank the Omegas (Nate’s house) by painting their entire frat house pink. When Kennedy tries to get Jules to come inside the house with her to steal the Omega’s paddle, Jules begs her not to make her. Kennedy demands to know what is going on with her and when Jules won’t tell her, tells Jules she doesn’t know who she is anymore and to check herself. While Kennedy is yelling, Jules sees a past version of herself from the night of her rape leaving the Omega house, broken and alone. She tells Kennedy she can’t do this anymore and leaves in tears. After taking down the Kappas, Jules finds Kennedy awake in the middle of the night on the couch and joins her. Kennedy tells her she knows something is going on and is here when Jules is ready to talk. Later she meets up with Ophelia for a much needed pizza date.
PIGEON YOUR OWN HOLE | Harris’ (Brandon Mychal Smith) editor has only been assigning him articles that are based in race and he wants to be able to branch out and write about more. His editor is fine with it and asks him to pitch her an alternative story. He tells her his theory about the recent crimes on campus. He believes they have a vigilante on their hands. His editor thinks he’s crazy but if he brings her proof, they could have story. He tracks down the first guy attacked, Will (Carter Jenkins), and tries to get him to tell him about who attacked him but he isn’t talking. Later, he finds out from Fiona (Lindsay Chambers) that there is a rumor that Will raped a girl.
KID SPICE | The #Jyler is strong this week with Jules and Tyler getting to know each other better. He confides in her about his brother being missing and she tries to keep him off their scent. He goes to his cop buddy and finds out that Carter’s phone went dark for ten days before showing up in Canada (where Ophelia hacked it to say). The day before he went MIA, his cell pinged the tower next to the cemetery so Tyler goes to check it out and comes within feet of the spot where Jules and Ophelia buried him.
OTHER THOUGHTS:
• I sincerely hope Harold the Roach turns into a running gag.
• I never rushed a sorority. Hell, I never really had the desire to. But I would absolutely pledge Zeta if Kennedy told me I was a Khaleesi and there was cookie decorating involved.
• I demand pictures of Tyler’s “Kid Spice” days
So what did you think? Would you pledge Zeta? How long do you think Jules is going to be able to keep the truth about Nate a secret from Kennedy? Is Harris going to catch on to Jules and Ophelia’s evening pursuits? Let us know in the comments below!
