“SurrealEstate” Recap: Drop Dead, Gorgeous

Recap of Episode “Roman’s Six”

The latest episode of SurrealEstate was one hell of a roller coaster ride. Not only did we get to see the inner machinations of very interesting demon, the life of one of the characters was in severe jeopardy. Written by Duana Taha and directed by Melanie Scrofano, here’s what went down in episode “Roman’s Six.”

Third Eye Blind | Luke (Tim Rozon) is transferred a listing from rival Rita Weiss (Alison Brooks) because she is taking some time off. When he suggests they go inside to take a look around, she tells him that her assistant took the lockbox code before dying of a gruesome eye injury. He asks her why she’s giving him the listing and informs him that her assistant’s death wasn’t the first on the premises. “It’s your kind of place,” she tells him.

At the office, the agency finds that the former owner of the house Catherine Owens (Elizabeth Saunders) had murdered her tenant a year prior. While going through the guest book of the Owens house, Zooey (Savannah Basley) and Phil (Adam Korson) make the connection that some of the interested buyers have all died due to eye injuries, and that the deaths have been happening three days apart.

The agents conclude that all the deaths are from the work of a Watchmaker — a very methodical demon that does very bad things in the same way in a very precise order. With the first three people on the guest book already killed, they try to track down the fourth person on the list, whose signature is illegible. Luke discovers that the Watchmaker is Catherine Owens herself, who is able to see her victims somehow and kill them by “accidental” means. Later at the diner, August (Maurice Dean Wint) informs Luke that the fourth person in the guest book who took a look at the house is Megan Donovan (Tennille Read).

Young & the Helpless | Susan (Sarah Levy) is given a property to list, but runs into a snag. The young squatters within the property are refusing to let the real estate agent inside to take pictures for the listing. Zooey hears of her colleague’s woes and steps in for the rescue. The office manager takes advantage of her youthful essence and breaks into the house and poses as a fellow Gen Z’er. “I live over….there.” She encourages the group of guys to participate in a “tiktok challenge” where they clear out rooms and dance like crazy. With Susan in her ear, Zooey manages to get the perfect photos they need to add to the listing.

Later at the office, Susan gives Zooey the commission check to deposit and tells her that Luke had approved a bonus for her because of her big save. “Thank you so much for assigning a dollar value to my dignity,” Zooey tells Susan. When Susan finds something odd about the check, she gives the client’s lawyer a call. He tells her that the Edwin Calabasas memorial trust has real estate holdings all over the world and that Edwin had died 8 years prior. After the call ends, Susan recaps: “We got hired by a ghost to cleanse his house of the people who were haunting it.”

Beautiful Disaster | Luke and company invite Megan back at the office, away from the outside world where anything could strike at any moment. They remove any objects in the office that could be used to pierce her in the eye, spoons included. When the med student gets up to use the bathroom, she secretly sneaks out of the building, telling an upset Luke that she had just remembered that it was the last day to register for her endocrinology lab, and it had to be in person.

She crosses the street and narrowly misses being poked in the eye by giant metal rods from the construction zone. Just a few steps further, however, she slips on a few nails and falls headfirst onto the ground. When the construction workers turn her over, Megan is seen impaled in the eye by one of the rods — a giant pool of blood collecting right under her. Why didn’t she listen to all the warnings Luke had been giving her?! (Side note: We couldn’t help but notice how stunning Megan looked all dead on the sidewalk.)

A visibly upset and heartbroken Luke shows up at the prison to confront the Watchmaker demon. “You loved her, didn’t you?” she says tauntingly. “Better to have loved and lost, no?” He heads for the door, seemingly to leave, but as he opens it, Megan enters the room! Surprised by her presence, the prisoner short circuits and dies at the table. Turns out everyone at The Roman Agency orchestrated Megan’s fake death to fool Catherine. Pretty clever, huh? We’re soooo relieved her death wasn’t real!
