Supergirl‘s final season continues in “Still I Rise,” which deals with the spectacularly boring problems of low income housing and bad business deals. Thrilling stuff, huh?
Always Read the Fine Print | After striking her deal with Myxly (Peta Sergeant), Nia (Nicole Maines) brings her to the real world and Myxly brings her mother back- but doing so will trap Nia in her apartment for the duration of the spell. Nia is horrified, but it’s too late to undo the bargain and Myxly scrams after bringing her mom back.
To make matters worse, her mom is pissed at her for letting Myxly out. Meanwhile, Kelly (Azie Tesfai) hears from Orlando’s case worker that he and Joey were denied housing and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) promises to help them. Myxly is immediately kidnapped by Naxim’s helper from the time travel episode and she offers to help him capture Supergirl to impress Naxim.
In the Heights | Kara investigates and finds out that Orlando’s apartment in the heights that fell through was recently bought by a mogul and the deal is forcing out the low income housing tenants. As Nia’s mother teaches her to interpret her dreams in the dream realm, Nia is attacked by ravens and then ends up inside her old dollhouse, along with a younger version of her sister, Maeve.
Meanwhile, Naxim’s helper Mitch kidnaps an alien scientist named Dr. Robb to help him construct a trap for Supergirl. But Supergirl is more concerned with swaying the vote on the sale of the building. She goes to the congresswoman running the vote and tries to change her mind, but she won’t budge.
Using the Platform | Nia finally figures out the meaning of her dream and realizes that she’s been trying to ignore the issues with Maeve and that the ravens represent the fact that she hurt her sister. Kelly suggests that Supergirl use her voice to showcase the voices of others to help her cause and she brings Orlando to the vote to tell his story to those voting on the deal.
At that moment, Mitch deploys the device that begins to freeze the building just as Alex (Chyler Leigh), Brainy (Jesse Rath) and J’onn (David Harewood) find Mitch’s ship and Myxly pretends to be a prisoner to get rescued by them. Supergirl manages to diffuse the bomb as Alex and Brainy evacuate the building just in time, which is enough to convince the council to vote no on the deal, but the congresswoman isn’t convinced.
As Nia’s mother disappears at the end of the day, she tells Nia that she needs to use her grief as fuel to stop Myxly, which Nia pledges to do. After J’onn finds an energy signature in the building a few hours later, Supergirl goes to check it out, only to find Myxly there, who traps her in ice and destroys the building. After she tells Supergirl that only magic can free her, Supergirl calls in Mr. Myxy (Thomas Lennon) to save her.
Supergirl airs Tuesdays on The CW.
