After a lot of rocky episodes dealing with our heroine in the Phantom Zone, Supergirl finally gets its groove back in the funny, exciting and revealing “Prom Night!” Brainy and Nia must travel back in time to 2009 to get DNA from young Kara, but are quickly sidetracked when aliens invade Midvale looking for her.

Back to the Past | With the Legion ship set for time travel to when young Kara punched an incoming Kryptonite meteorite to save the town but got injured in the process, Brainy (Jesse Rath) and Nia (Nicole Maines) travel to Midvale circa 2009, where young Kara (Izabela Vidovic), young Alex (Olivia Nikkanen) and Kara’s boyfriend Kenny (Peter Sudarso), who wasn’t killed in this version of Earth, are having milkshakes. Turns out that Kara and Kenny were secretly using her powers to make a difference in Midvale, which Alex doesn’t approve of.

The ship lands a day before the prom where the meteorite hit and Nia and Brainy get immediately spotted by Kara, Alex and Kenny. To make matters worse, the ship is wrecked and they need to find a rare element to fix it. Left with little options, Brainy and Nia are forced to team up with Kara and Kenny against Alex’s wishes.

If Only… | Brainy and Kenny hatch a plan to break into the high school to steal the material they need to fix the ship, while Nia and Kara bond over their powers and Nia reminisces about her mother and wishes she could call her and learn how to control her powers. While Brainy whips up a 2009 version of a 3D printer that works painfully slow, Alex sneaks Kara and Nia into the college to get the element that’s on display, while Alex gets interviewed by a young Cat Grant (Eliza Helm) about Kara’s super antics, which Cat is suspicious of.

Brainy gets distracted by the baseball team, while Nia gets the element she needs, but on their way out, she, Kara and Alex see an empty gas truck being controlled by a renegade alien named Naxim, who wants to reveal the super person from Midvale by causing an accident. Nia and Kara combine their powers to stop the truck, but the aliens reveal themselves to them before scurrying off.

Changing Things | Kara and Alex have a fight after Alex accuses her of being immature for rushing in to save the day, risking exposing her identity and Kara storms off to prove her wrong. After fixing the ship, Nia calls her mother but gets her answering machine. Brainy hacks into the DEO database to find out about Naxim, who wants to collect aliens for his intergalactic zoo, but the file changes from captured to at large, meaning they changed the course of events.

As Kenny takes Kara to show her a barn he turned into their super hideout, Nia calms down a stressed Brainy by singing Dolly Parton’s classic “9 to 5” just as the ship’s computer locates Naxim’s ship. They go there, but are immediately trapped by Naxim, leading to a “To Be Continued…”
