With Supergirl having sent its titular heroine to the Phantom Zone in the first episode of the final season, will this week’s installment, “Lost Souls,” finally free her? Find out in our recap!

Super Ghostbusters | With Lena (Katie McGrath) officially onboard with the team, she whips up a device to contain the loose Phantoms that is literally the proton packs from “Ghostbusters.” Don’t believe me? Brainy (Jesse Rath) even says so! M’Gann (Sharon Leal) has visions of the lead Phantom, called the Prime, since she’s still connected to them and the team reasons that if they trap the Prime, they can cure the infected Phantoms. M’Gann can also track Phantoms, which could lead to finally rescuing Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) from the Phantom Zone. The team tracks the Prime to a subway station, but Brainy and Dreamer (Nicole Maines) are unable to contain him.

In the Phantom Zone, Supergirl, her father (Jason Behr) and Myxl (Peta Sergeant) make it to the Phantom’s transport gate, but it’s damaged. They search the bowels of the gate station and find a replacement device to power the gate, but a scarred prisoner of Fort Raz hurts Kara’s father before scurrying off.

Two Problems At Once | With M’Gann unable to track Prime, the team must choose between saving Supergirl or stopping the Phantoms, but Lena comes up with a device to replicate to M’Gann’s ability to track the Phantoms, but she needs a piece of Kara’s DNA to do so. Alex (Chyler Leigh) says she knows how to get some, while Nia has another dream of young Kara and Alex at their high school in Midvale and doesn’t know what it means.

Alex gives Lena a crystal that Kara recorded her life story on before she was sent to the Phantom Zone and Lena uses this to track Kara, while Dreamer astral projects herself to Prime’s lair and sees him in a cocoon preparing to evolve to his final, most powerful form. Left with little options, Alex tells Lena that the device she made to track Kara can’t be used today and they need to reprogram it to find Prime. When Lena refuses, Alex takes it from her anyway.

Betrayed | Kara’s injured father stays behind to ward off the attacker while she and Myxl fix the gate, but Myxl tells Kara that she needs to leave her father behind. When Kara refuses, Myxl shows her true colors and confesses that she was the one who stabbed him and that she’s going to Earth through the gate to wipe out mankind.

Alex, J’onn (David Harewood), Brainy and Dreamer find the Prime’s hideout, but they are overwhelmed by Phantoms and get picked off one by one save for Alex, who destroys the Phantom’s cocoon, freeing the corrupted Phantoms and saving the others, who team up to capture Prime. Kara and Myxl fight, during which, Myxl accidentally activates the fortress’s self destruct.

Kara destroys the gate so Myxl can’t escape, just as the explosion goes off. Kara escapes, but the gate is destroyed and with it, Myxl and her father. With Prime captured, Lena realizes that if they get Kara’s DNA, he can track her in the Phantom Zone, but the only way to get her DNA is to go back in time to when she was at Midvale High, making sense of Nia’s dreams.

Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW.
