“Supergirl” Recap: Things Get Frosty

Supergirl‘s final season continues in “Phantom Menaces,” in which the keepers of the Phantom Zone escape to Earth, threatening National City. Supergirl meets an ally in the Phantom Zone, while Lex and Lena’s feud reaches new heights.

Darkness is Coming | J’onn (David Harewood) and M’Gann (Sharon Leal) storm into Silas’s (Claude Knowlton) apartment to find him near dead on the floor and realize that a Phantom has escaped. They take him back to their headquarters, while Alex (Chyler Leigh) is feeling hopeless after losing Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai), who apparently found out that Kara is Supergirl offscreen, has to talk her into keeping on.

Lex (Jon Cryer) has been locked out of Luthor Corp systems by Lena (Katie McGrath) and he threatens to fast track the investigation into her if she doesn’t let him back in, while Supergirl and her father (Jason Behr) are separated by scavengers in the Phantom Zone and Supergirl breaks her leg in the process. Fortunately, she is rescued by a woman (Peta Sergeant), who turns out to be from the fifth dimension.

J’onn and Brainy (Jesse Rath) figure out that the Phantom infected Silas with dark energy and soon after, Silas transforms into a Phantom and tries to kill them before Brainy incarcerates him. The team deduces that the Phantoms are reproducing by infecting people and are spreading throughout the city. J’onn orders M’Gann not to track the Phantoms until Brainy can reverse the damage, but she ignores him and goes after them and ends up getting infected in the process.

Operation Vengeance | With Brainy’s help, Lena diverts Lex’s illegal funds to a donation to the children’s hospital, which backfires substantially when Lex finds out and orders his men to burn the hospital to the ground and frame Lena for it! Brainy has a meltdown over this act of evil, but Lena tearfully tells him that he needs to let the rage go.

In the Phantom Zone, Supergirl’s new friend turns out to be Myxly, the princess of the fifth dimension who was sentenced there by her evil father and has a cuff that inhibits her powers, but with Supergirl’s encouragement, she breaks it off and uses her magic to heal Supergirl’s leg.

Saving M’Gann | J’onn uses Martian gadgets combined with Kelly’s Obsidian lenses to guide M’Gann’s soul back to her body at the exact moment it leaves, while Alex and Brainy fight off the Phantoms attacking the base, while Lena teleports them into a cage. After this, Lena tells Lex that she made a deal with the DA investigating her to drop the case- if she exits Luthor Corp.

Even though it means losing her fortune and letting Lex go unchecked, it also means Lena being free of Lex’s mental torture of her. Alex realizes after today that the little things are important and she asks Kelly to move in with her, while Myxly helps Supergirl free her father and the three of them vow to find a way to escape.

Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW.
