“Supergirl” Recap: You Can’t Handle the Truth!
Pardon the pun in this week’s “Supergirl” recap title, but when the episode is called “A Few Good Women,” can you blame me for seizing an opportunity?
As Lex is put on trial for his crimes, Team Supergirl will stop at nothing to get Supergirl out of the Phantom Zone, while Supergirl herself runs into a familiar face in captivity.
So, Vampires? | We begin with one of the most out of left field intros in “Supergirl” history: A vampire named Silas (Claude Knowlton) robbing a blood bank? Okay, so he’s technically an alien that craves blood and can turn into a bat, but still! Team Supergirl, minus Supergirl of course, tracks him down and find out that he broke into the Phantom Zone when his husband, Owen, was wrongfully sentenced there, but Owen went insane from the Phantoms there. Silas agrees to help them, as Nia (Nicole Maines) is paired with William (Staz Nair) to cover Lex’s (Jon Cryer) trial. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is surrounded by Phantoms, when she wakes up in a cavern with none other than her father! (Jason Behr)
The Trial of Lex Luthor | As Lex is sent to the courthouse for his trial awaiting Eve’s (Andrea Brooks) testimony, Rojas (Julie Gonzalo) asks Lena (Katie McGrath) if she’s going to the trial to testify, but Lena refuses. Which turns out to bite everybody in the ass when Lex, representing himself, accuses Eve of setting him up for all of his crimes.
Too bad we don’t have a truth seeking alien around- oh, wait. As Lena prepares to take the stand, she is visited by Lillian (Brenda Strong), who tries to talk her out of testifying, seeing as she’s just as culpable in Lex’s plot as he is and her testimony could turn public opinion against her as well.
Escape Clause | In the Phantom Zone, Supergirl’s father tries to talk her out of trying to escape, since every time they try, the Phantoms come for them, but of course, Supergirl won’t give up. Lena takes the stand and exposes every horrible thing Lex did, leading to Lex having a full blown meltdown about how women can always come after men with power and tear them down. Yeah, Lex just went full Harvey Weinstein! And get this: It works! Lex is found not guilty!
Silas manages to build a portal to the Phantom Zone, but Brainy (Jesse Rath) realizes that it has fractured into thousands, if not millions of pocket dimensions and that searching each one will take years. A group of Phantoms come through the portal and everyone combines their powers to send them back into the Zone, but during this, a Phantom bellows smoke into Silas’s mouth.
With Lex exonerated and no way to find Supergirl, Alex (Chyler Leigh) is feeling hopeless, while Lex calls for Lena to be investigated for her role in the fiasco. As Silas goes home for the night, the smoke comes out of him and a Phantom materializes, while Supergirl and her father reason that they’ll have to catch a Phantom to escape the Zone.
Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW.
