“Supergirl” Recap: One Problem At a Time

In “Supergirl’s” action packed and intense midseason finale, “The Wrath of Rama Khan,” Supergirl must find a way to stop Lena from executing her sinister plot, while Rama Khan enlists Rojas for a final mission. Alex must make two hard calls regarding these problems, while Malefic must atone for his actions.

Never Giving Up | Somehow, Alex and Brainy teleport to the Fortress of Solitude to free Supergirl from the ice and she immediately flies to Lex’s fortress in the mountains, where Lena and Hope are holed up ready to launch Myriad combined with Malefic’s mind control waves. Immediately, Lena shoots Supergirl with a disruptor ray, but stops short of using Kryptonite on her and for some reason, Supergirl flies away.

J’onn brings Malefic to the DEO, where Alex immediately arrests him, even after he reveals Lena’s plans to use Myriad to mind control the population. Supergirl appears to Lena via a hologram to plead her case, but Lena just shuts her out, forcing Alex to secretly use the hologram to plant a virus in Lena’s systems that will stall her while she targets the fortress with missiles. And I hate to take sides here, but I agree with Alex on this one. Alex’s evidence that Lena has always screwed them over is overwhelming, and Lena’s flat out crossed a line here. I’m sorry, Supercorp shippers, but I have spoken.

One Last Job | Meanwhile, the earth bender, Rama Khan, reveals his plot to reactivate a super volcano and erupt it, destroying National City, but he needs Rojas’s powers to do it. He promises that if she does this, he’ll let her go, but when she refuses, he pins her to a pile of dirt and harnesses her powers to activate the volcano.

As Supergirl and J’onn fly off to fight Rama Khan, Malefic offers to use his powers to counteract Lena’s waves from Myriad, saving the Earth. Alex reluctantly agrees, and it’s enough to stop Lena’s plot, but we’ve still got a volcano to stop!

Second Chances | J’onn manages to free Rojas from the dirt, cutting off Rama Khan’s connection to the volcano. Rojas takes Rama Khan back to the lair of Leviathan and leaves him there when his superior tells him that he’s had his chance and someone else will destroy Earth. Lena and Hope escape from the fortress, where the DEO is waiting for them, but Hope takes the fall for Lena’s crimes and they arrest Hope and let Lena go on literally zero evidence that Lena did nothing wrong. Of course, Alex and Supergirl know different, but they’ll worry about her in the next episode. Meanwhile, the last five minutes of the show tease the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, which sucks for those of us that don’t watch very single CW Arrowverse show.

Supergirl airs Sundays on The CW.
