“Supergirl” Recap: Leviathan’s Secrets Revealed

“Supergirl’s” fifth season has so far been hit and miss with some plot threads not paying off yet and a lack of emotional impact. “Tremors” makes up for that in virtually every way, delivering a sucker punch of an episode that changes the game and rips the rug out from under us in a hugely unexpected way.

Lena comes under attack by Leviathan, prompting Supergirl to take her to the Fortress of Solitude for safety, unwittingly playing into Lena’s plot. J’onn attempts to find a way to fix things with Malefic, while Alex and Brainy investigate Leviathan.

The Last Earth Bender | First up on this epic episode, we finally get some info on Leviathan, as the mystery woman, who we finally learn is named Margo, unsuccessfully attempts to kill Lena and steal the medallion from her. She reports to her superiors, including “Stranger Things'” Cara Buono and an earthquake inducing fella who reveal that they are aliens whose spaceship wiped out the dinosaurs when it landed on Earth and they’ve been keeping tabs on mankind ever since, but now we’re, say it with me: “Causing our own destruction,” so they’re trying to right the ship.

A Luthor in the Fortress | After the Earth Bender- Brainy’s words, not mine- tries to kill Lena, Supergirl takes Lena to the Fortress of Solitude to find a weapon to defeat him. There, Lena presses some buttons on the control console and shows interest in the Myriad device from season 1- again, this show is good at continuity.

Meanwhile, Alex and Brainy are nearly killed when they find Russell’s body rigged to blow and the explosion damages Brainy and gives Alex a concussion. Kelly is traumatized yet again seeing Alex in danger and even tells Alex that she can’t deal with seeing her girlfriend in danger, while Brainy’s injury helps him discover a clue that leads to Leviathan’s headquarters, but when they go there, they are diverted to an empty basement.

Supergirl Will Save Me | J’onn consults his father’s ghost yet again, who tells him where Malefic is being held and that he must let Malefic into his mind to earn his forgiveness, even though Malefic could kill him. When J’onn lets Malefic in, Malefic finally forgives J’onn.

But there are much more important things to worry about this week: Supergirl catches Lena trying to leave with Myriad and Lena finally confesses to Kara not only that she’s known her secret identity for months, but that she also killed Lex. She tearfully screams out Kara for lying to her and manipulates the Fortress’ defense systems, making them imprison Kara before Lena leaves with Myriad, much to Kara’s horror.

So, finally, all the cards are on the table and now “Supergirl” won’t return until Sunday, December 1.
