In a very detective-esque and convoluted episode, “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Supergirl” gives us answers, questions and a deeper endgame for the season. Kara and William attempt to get to the bottom of Rojas’s misdeeds, leading to a new threat that could end everything. Lena’s dark mission reaches a breakthrough, while Kelly has a traumatic incident.
In It for the Justice | As Lena and Hope convince Malefic to test his mind control powers on the condition she helps him kill J’onn, Kara works with William to investigate Rojas’s crimes and invites him to the DEO to interrogate the wind controlling assassin from last week’s episode, who reveals that she’s working with other killers, one of whom has four arms.
William reveals that this four armed, Doctor Octopus-like man is called RipRoar and he is responsible for the murder of his best friend Russell Rogers. This is timed with RipRoar robbing Lex’s vault of a superheated laser, not to mention Rojas launching a “Ready Player One” esque virtual consciousness on Obsidian North’s contact lenses.

It’s All Connected | After a pointless, albeit impressive scene where Brainy allows the tattooed parasite to infect him so they can interrogate it, Supergirl snaps and wants to confront Rojas about all of her misdeeds, but Alex talks her out of it, seeing as Kelly is having the time of her life working for her and she doesn’t want to hurt her girlfriend.
When Kara and William break into Rojas’s office for clues, they find a photo of Rojas getting cozy with Russell Rogers. William reveals that Russell was dating Rojas, but was killed by RipRoar the next day. J’onn goes to Russell’s house and psychically scans the room and finds no evidence of murder. And the plot thickens…
Making Waves | The DEO finds out that the laser is going to be used at a lake in Antarctica to melt an ice cap and flood the United States. Supergirl and J’onn manage to stop this, but a tidal wave nearly kills Kelly and Alex by the coast as Dreamer somehow contains the wave with her powers. Kelly breaks down in the girls’ room the next day and Nia comforts her, while Brainy discovers that RipRoar is none other than Russell Rogers.
Even worse, the tidal wave would’ve wiped out Obsidian North’s main factory, meaning that Rojas was likely not responsible for the attack. Rojas is met in her limo by the mystery woman from the season 4 finale, who tells her that this was Leviathan’s doing and they need her help with something. Also, Lena screws over Malefic and controls his mind with the contact lenses mixed with Malefic’s powers. Confused yet? Don’t worry, that’s normal.
“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
