“Supergirl” Recap: Traitors Among Us

This week’s Supergirl was, um, weird. I get the impression that this will be one of those seasons where it’ll make sense by the end, but that made “Stranger Beside Me” a very confusing hour that didn’t quite strike a good balance of storylines.

As Kara adjusts to CatCo under Rojas’s leadership, Lena confronts Eve after she betrayed her to Lex. J’onn and Kelly team up to find J’onn’s rogue brother, who infiltrates team Supergirl.

Worst Morning Ever | Kicking off this very, very unusual episode, Alex makes breakfast for Kelly, only to derail it by making blueberry pancakes, which Kelly is allergic to. Kara and James talk James’s potential offer to run for senate before they find J’onn knocked out on the floor of his office. J’onn says he’s suffering aftereffects from a psychic connection to his rogue brother and asks Kelly to use Obsidian tech to go into his mind and heal him.

In a shocking reveal, it turns out that Eve was kidnapped by none other than Lena, who has her imprisoned in her lab with a thingy strapped to her head. Lena also is trying to deconstruct Rojas’s contact lenses, for reasons that Lena claims are to save humanity, but really sounds like a madwoman’s plot to rewrite free will.

Brotherly Hate | After a failed attempt to capture J’onn’s brother, he shape shifts into Alex, sneaks into her apartment and then turns into Kelly as Alex walks in. Fortunately, Alex finds out it’s not Kelly when she agrees to have blueberry pancakes and calls Supergirl. After a fight, J’onn’s brother escapes and J’onn suggests to Kelly to use higher voltage on the contacts to unlock more of his memories of his brother, but Kelly warns that it’s too dangerous. J’onn’s brother turns into a fly on the wall and hears this, so ruh roh.

Sabotaged | Back at CatCo, Rojas continues to be this season’s Ben Lockwood and undermines Kara at every turn before cutting Lena off from use of her technology after finding out that Lena’s been using the contacts. Eve hears this, but doesn’t tip off Rojas, proving to Lena that she’s trustworthy. Lena takes this rather… oddly, to say the least. She has Hope invade Eve’s brain via nanobots and essentially take over Eve’s body!

Supergirl airs Sundays at 9pm on The CW.
