“Supergirl” kicks off its fifth season with “Event Horizon,” as Lena must decide what she will do after discovering Kara’s secret. Kara, James and Nia face a new editor at CatCo, who has a controversial agenda for the company, while J’onn deals with a new shapeshifting threat.
Here’s the Deal | Picking up after Lena discovered that Kara is Supergirl, she’s taking the news rather badly, having her Cortana-esque AI, Hope, run simulations of her kicking the crap out of Supergirl via VR contact lenses. As Kara herself vows to tell Lena the truth, she goes to CatCo to find out that the place has been sold to Andrea Rojas, the CEO of Obsidian North, one of the fasting growing tech companies that Kelly now works at.
Meanwhile, a little girl arrives at a museum where Superman’s pod is on display and transforms into a T-Rex, terrorizing “Garfunkel & Oates” alum Kate Micucci. Supergirl’s cape gets damaged in the fight, while the girl leaves with Superman’s pod.
All About Clicks | On the eve of Kara being awarded a Pulitzer for her article that brought down President Baker, Rojas makes it clear to the CatCo staff that her new vision for the company involves money, money, money. When James stands up for the good old fashioned values of homegrown journalism, Rojas tells the staff that if they quit, they cannot work as journalists ever again.

To add to that, she hires reporter William Dey to rewrite one of Kara’s articles, but when Kara stands up for herself, she reveals that she was manipulating her to see how she would react. For some reason, Kara finds this amusing!
Meanwhile, the girl uses a device from Superman’s pod to open a portal to the Phantom Zone, unleashing Midnight, a former foe of J’onn’s. She escapes, but Brainy manages to whip up a microscopic device that will materialize Supergirl’s new suit- complete with pants!
The Luthor Way | At Kara’s Pulitzer ceremony, Kara finds out that Lena is introducing her and breaks down, finally, tearfully confessing to Lena that she is Supergirl. Lena walks away from Kara to go up to the podium, where she is planning to send video proof that Kara is Supergirl to Rojas, but decides not to go through with it and tells Kara that they’ll always be friends.
Then, just to make things interesting, Midnight arrives to get even with J’onn and team Supergirl puts on “Supermassive Black Hole” by Muse and kicks her butt. J’onn cuffs her while Alex uses the device from the pod to send Midnight back to the Phantom Zone, while James gets advice from Kelly to follow his own path and tells Rojas that he quits. Supergirl gives Lena the watch that summons her and says she’s letting Lena in on things from now on.
All’s well, right? WRONG! Lena is still pissed and is planning revenge, only lying to Kara so she won’t see her revenge coming! Elsewhere, the girl confronts J’onn and reveals himself as J’onn’s brother, whom J’onn doesn’t remember, and somewhere in a diner, Eve is kidnapped.
“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
