“Supergirl” Recap: If You Only Knew the Power of the Dark Side

This week’s “Supergirl” episode, “Red Dawn,” starts putting the pieces in place for the season finale, and also throwing a couple new wrenches in the plan. Supergirl sets out to stop her Russian counterpart, while Alex starts to experience flashbacks. Lena confronts Lockwood about his role in Lex’s plan, while Brainy and Dreamer infiltrate an alien smuggling operation.

The American Dream | After almost immediately escaping the President’s guards, Kara is confronted by Snowbird, who shoots her in the arm while she’s affected by Kryptonite. After J’onn stitches her up, Kara becomes convinced that Snowbird is going after Alex and alerts her to the clone situation.

Meanwhile, Lena discovers that Lockwood is working for Lex, but when she confronts him, he has no idea. He also seems to be getting sick from the superpower serum, which Lena worries will happen to James. So much so, that she tricks her mother into working on a stabilization serum under the promise that she’ll poison her if she doesn’t pull through.

The Wookie Gambit | J’onn and Brainy start tracking kidnapped aliens to find out where they’re being taken, but Brainy is distracted because he wants to tell Nia that he loves her. But when Dreamer arrives, she finds out that a kidnapped alien girl is being taken by guards and she and Brainy try to use “the Wookie Gambit” to break in, by having Brainy disguise himself as Lockwood and hand over Dreamer as a prisoner. This goes sideways and Brainy is tortured by guards, who somehow reboot him to his old, homicidal ways, as he knocks out the guard and then hands J’onn and Dreamer over to the guards so that they can find out where the aliens are being taken.

Super Stalker | Supergirl finds out where Snowbird is crashing and arrives to find an apartment across the street from Kara’s, set up exactly as Kara’s apartment is. Soon after, Alex gets a call from Eliza saying that Kara is home and Supergirl flies to stop Snowbird.

Lockwood goes to see Otis Graves, who pretty much confesses Lex’s entire plot before trying to kill Lockwood. Lena and James, who were trailing Lockwood, arrive and try to stop him, but Lockwood kills Otis. James starts convulsing and Lillian manages to whip up a serum to stabilize James.

As Supergirl fights Snowbird in the woods outside Eliza’s house, Alex arrives and gets a bunch of flashbacks of knowing Kara’s powers and the moment where she had her memory wiped. Snowbird beats Supergirl to a pulp and flies off, and for a moment, Alex is connived that her sister is dead, when, somehow, the sunlight in the grass around Supergirl funnels into her and heals her??? How does that work?

No matter, as Haley calls Alex to inform her that, according to the news, Lex Luthor has just killed Snowbird and allegedly saved the world from the menacing Supergirl!

“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
