“Supergirl” Recap: Going Rogue
“Supergirl” returns from winter hiatus with an unexpected downer ending in “Suspicious Minds.” Colonel Haley is determined to find out Supergirl’s true identity, while Alex discovers a cover up in the DEO. Brainy tries to talk Nia into joining the fight.
Stinks of a Cover Up | After Supergirl finds a tanker under attack from invisible aliens, Alex discovers that Haley will do whatever it takes to find out Supergirl’s true identity, interrogating DEO agents to find out. Alex orders everyone who knows Kara’s secret to lie to her, while Brainy takes Nia out to a nice restaurant to try to talk her into becoming a full fledged superhero, which she is reluctant to do. He leaves her with a binder full of superhero costume ideas- along with the check.

John Jones, PI | J’onn sets up shop in a cool office as a private investigator and helps Kara dig through old DEO files to find out about invisible aliens trained by agent Tan and Haley as assassins. Supergirl, Alex and J’onn arrive at Tan’s house just in time for him to get killed by one alien as the other commits suicide to avoid being taken in.
Since the aliens are coming for Haley next, Alex locks down the DEO, but Haley orders the men to execute the invaders. Alex briefly considers quitting to stick it to her, but Kara talks her out of it, saying that Haley in charge of the DEO would be worse. This is timed with a DEO agent letting slip that Kara is Supergirl to Haley. Ruh-Roh!
On a Mission | When the aliens arrive, one of them gets killed, but the other corners Haley. Supergirl saves her just in time, but Haley immediately orders Supergirl to return to duty under her watchful eye, promising that she’ll tell everyone who she is if she refuses. Alex responds by laying out Haley with one punch. J’onn erases Haley’s memory of Kara’s secret, but Haley still wants to find out the truth, using an alien truth serum on DEO agents.
J’onn agrees to wipe the minds of all DEO agents who know the secret- and in a tragic twist, that includes Alex. Alex is fully game, but Kara is devastated, knowing she’ll have to lie to Alex every day. Alex tells Kara that she has to save her this time and the episode ends with J’onn doing the deed. Yowza, remember when this show was light and fun?
“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
